SIP Trunk Setup for byon

Use Voyced as an external SIP provider

This guide explains how to connect a Voyced SIP trunk to byon using the standard Voyced SIP connection method.

This setup uses:

  • SIP server

  • SIP username

  • SIP password

No SIP URI forwarding is used.

What You’ll Need

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Admin access to your byon phone system or byon customer portal

  • Permission to add or edit external SIP providers / trunks

  • At least one user, extension, group, or call flow already set up

  • Your Voyced SIP details:

    • Account / telephone number: Your-Voyced-DID

    • Service password: YourServicePassword

    • SIP server: sip.voyced.eu

Requirements Before You Begin

  • Your byon system must allow an external SIP provider or external SIP trunk

  • SIP registration must be supported

  • SIP transport should use UDP

  • SIP port should be 5060

  • SIP ALG should be disabled on any firewall or router involved

  • Numbers should be sent in full international format

  • Recommended codecs:

    • PCMA / alaw

    • PCMU / ulaw

If the byon portal does not show an option to add an external SIP provider, ask byon support to enable third-party SIP trunk support for the customer system.

SIP Trunk Setup Steps

1. Open SIP Provider or Trunk Settings

  1. Log in to the byon admin portal.

  2. Go to the telephony or PBX settings area.

  3. Look for one of these sections:

    • SIP Provider

    • SIP Trunks

    • External Lines

    • Provider Accounts

    • Trunk Groups

    • Lines / Gateways

The exact name can vary depending on the byon platform being used.

2. Add a New External SIP Provider

Create a new SIP provider or SIP trunk.

Enter:

Field Value
Provider Name Voyced
Trunk Name Voyced
Provider Type Generic SIP Provider
Connection Type Register / Account Based
SIP Server / Registrar sip.voyced.eu
SIP Proxy sip.voyced.eu
SIP Domain / Realm sip.voyced.eu
SIP Port 5060
Transport UDP

If there is an outbound proxy field, leave it blank unless byon requires it.

If it must be filled in, use:

sip.voyced.eu

3. Enter Authentication Details

In the authentication section, enter:

Field Value
Username Your-Voyced-DID
Authentication Username Your-Voyced-DID
SIP User ID Your-Voyced-DID
Password YourServicePassword
From User Your-Voyced-DID
From Domain sip.voyced.eu

Save the settings.

4. Enable SIP Registration

Enable registration for the Voyced trunk.

Use:

Field Value
Register Enabled
Registration Required Yes
Registration Interval 3600 seconds
Keep Alive Enabled
NAT Keep Alive Enabled, if available

After saving, the trunk should show as registered.

If it does not register, check:

  • Username

  • Password

  • SIP server

  • SIP port

  • Firewall rules

5. Configure Codecs

Set codec priority to:

  1. PCMA / G.711 A-law / alaw

  2. PCMU / G.711 U-law / ulaw

Disable unused codecs where possible.

Do not force HD codecs unless both systems support them.

6. Assign the Voyced DID

Add or assign the Voyced number:

Your-Voyced-DID

Depending on the byon system, this may be called:

  • DID

  • DDI

  • External Number

  • Public Number

  • Trunk Number

  • Incoming Number

  • Number Mapping

Use the full number format supplied by Voyced.

7. Configure Inbound Calls

Create an inbound route for:

Your-Voyced-DID

Route it to the required destination, such as:

  • User / extension

  • Ring group

  • IVR

  • Queue

  • Call flow

  • Reception group

Example:

Field Value
Route Name Voyced Inbound
DID / DDI Your-Voyced-DID
Source Trunk Voyced
Destination Reception / Extension / IVR

Save the route.

8. Configure Outbound Calls

Create an outbound route that uses the Voyced trunk.

Example:

Field Value
Route Name Voyced Outbound
Trunk / Provider Voyced
Dial Pattern International numbers
Caller ID Your-Voyced-DID

Use full international number format.

Example:

442012345678

Avoid sending local numbers such as:

02012345678

unless byon rewrites the number before sending it to Voyced.

If users dial with a prefix, such as 0 or 9, make sure byon removes that prefix before sending the call to Voyced.

Testing Your Setup

Inbound Test

  1. Call your Voyced number from a mobile phone.

  2. Confirm the call reaches the correct byon destination.

  3. Check that audio works both ways.

Outbound Test

  1. Dial an external number from a byon extension.

  2. Use full international format where possible.

  3. Confirm the call routes through the Voyced trunk.

  4. Check that the correct caller ID is shown.

Troubleshooting

Trunk Does Not Register

Check:

  • SIP server is sip.voyced.eu

  • Username is Your-Voyced-DID

  • Password is YourServicePassword

  • Transport is UDP

  • Port is 5060

  • Firewall allows outbound SIP

  • SIP ALG is disabled

401 or 403 Error

This usually means an authentication issue.

Check:

  • Username

  • Authentication username

  • Password

  • From User

  • From Domain

Use:

Username: Your-Voyced-DID
Password: YourServicePassword
SIP server: sip.voyced.eu

404 Error

This usually means the call reached Voyced, but the called number or request format was not accepted.

Check:

  • Called number format

  • Outbound dial rules

  • Prefix stripping

  • DID mapping

  • Caller ID format

Use full international number format.

One-Way Audio

Check:

  • RTP ports

  • NAT settings

  • SIP ALG

  • Firewall rules

  • Codec settings

No External SIP Provider Option in byon

Some hosted systems limit trunk changes to the provider or support team.

Ask byon support to confirm:

Can this byon system register to an external SIP provider using SIP username, password, and registrar?

If yes, use the Voyced details:

Username: Your-Voyced-DID
Password: YourServicePassword
Registrar: sip.voyced.eu
Port: 5060
Transport: UDP

Final Tips

  • Use the normal Voyced SIP login method

  • Do not use SIP URI forwarding

  • Keep the SIP server as sip.voyced.eu

  • Use Your-Voyced-DID as username, authentication username, and From User

  • Use full international number format

  • Test inbound and outbound separately

  • If the byon interface does not show the needed settings, ask byon support to add the external SIP trunk on the customer’s behalf
