Groundwire

Groundwire Softphone Setup with Voyced

Groundwire is a SIP softphone for Android smartphones, iPhones and iPads.

With Groundwire, you use your Voyced telephone number to make and receive calls over Wi-Fi or mobile data, wherever you have a suitable internet connection.

Groundwire supports multiple telephone accounts, push notifications, voicemail, call transfers and other business calling features.

This guide covers two setup methods:

  • Quick Install: Select Voyced from Groundwire's built-in provider list.

  • Full Manual Install: Enter the Voyced SIP settings yourself.

For most users, Quick Install is the recommended method.

1. Before you start

You need:

  • A working Voyced telephone account (DID).

  • Your Voyced Service Password.

  • Groundwire installed on your smartphone or tablet.

  • A working Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.

Download Groundwire

Groundwire is a paid application developed by Acrobits.

Download the current version from:

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.acrobits.softphone.alien

iPhone and iPad: https://apps.apple.com/app/id378503081

Groundwire is different from the simpler Acrobits Softphone application. Make sure you install Groundwire if you want the features described in this guide.

Find your Voyced account details

You received your VoIP account details when your Voyced service was activated.

You will also find them in your Hosted IPPBX.

  1. Log in to your Voyced Hosted IPPBX.

  2. Open Cloud PBX / IP Centrex > Phone Lines.

  3. Find your telephone number.

  4. Select the wrench icon beside the number.

  5. Copy the DID displayed for your account.

  6. Open My Profile > Settings to find your Service Password.

Your DID serves as your SIP username.

Your Service Password is different from your Voyced website login password.

2. Quick Install: Select Voyced as your provider

This is the easiest way to configure Groundwire.

Groundwire includes a preconfigured Voyced provider profile, allowing you to connect without entering all the technical SIP settings yourself.

Android

  1. Open Groundwire.

  2. On the main screen, open the Settings menu.

  3. Select Settings > Accounts.

  4. Press the + button to add an account.

  5. Find the provider search field.

  6. Search for Voyced.

  7. Select Voyced from the results.

  8. Enter your Voyced DID as the username or account.

  9. Enter your Service Password.

  10. Save the account.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Groundwire.

  2. Select the Keypad tab.

  3. Open Settings > SIP Accounts or Accounts.

  4. Press the + button.

  5. Search the provider list for Voyced.

  6. Select Voyced.

  7. Enter your Voyced DID.

  8. Enter your Service Password.

  9. Select Save or Done.

Check your connection

Return to Groundwire's main screen.

The SIP account indicator in the upper-left area should turn solid green.

A solid green indicator means your Voyced account has registered successfully.

View your Voyced call credit balance

An additional feature of Groundwire's Voyced provider configuration is the display of your available call credit balance.

When supported by your account configuration, your current call credit balance appears beside the registered Voyced account name.

This balance belongs to your Voyced account and helps you keep track of the funds available for calls.

If the balance is not displayed, check your account directly through the Voyced Hosted IPPBX.

Your basic setup is complete.

You should now be able to make and receive calls.

3. Full Manual Install

Use this method when you prefer to enter the SIP details yourself, or when the Voyced provider profile is not available.

Step 1. Create an account

On Android:

  1. Open Groundwire.

  2. Select Settings > Accounts.

  3. Press + to add an account.

  4. Choose Generic SIP Account or New SIP Account.

On iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open Groundwire.

  2. Select the Keypad tab.

  3. Open Settings > Accounts.

  4. Press +.

  5. Choose Generic SIP Account or New SIP Account.

Step 2. Enter the Voyced details

Groundwire setting Voyced value
Title / Account name Voyced
Username Your Voyced DID
Password Your Service Password
SIP domain / Host sip.voyced.eu
Port 5060
Transport protocol UDP
Authentication username Your Voyced DID, if requested
Display name Your name or company name
Outbound proxy Leave empty
STUN Disabled
Registration Enabled

The title helps identify your account in Groundwire. You may use another name, such as Work Number or Office Line.

If Groundwire does not request a separate SIP port, leave the default port unchanged when using UDP.

Step 3. Advanced connection settings

Voyced offers several SIP connection methods.

Connection method Server Port
Preferred DNS NAPTR sip.voyced.eu 0
Alternative DNS SRV sip.voyced.eu 5060
Standard SIP sip.voyced.eu 5060
Secondary server sipnl.voyced.eu 5060

For a standard Groundwire installation, use sip.voyced.eu with UDP on port 5060.

If your Groundwire version does not provide separate DNS discovery or backup server fields, leave those settings unchanged.

Step 4. Save and register

  1. Save the new SIP account.

  2. Return to the main screen.

  3. Check the account indicator.

The account icon should turn solid green.

If the account remains red or shows an error, check the username, Service Password and SIP server details.

4. Set up incoming call notifications

One of Groundwire's main advantages is support for push notifications.

These help your phone receive incoming VoIP calls while Groundwire is in the background or not actively open.

Groundwire uses Acrobits' push notification service for this feature.

Android

  1. Open Groundwire.

  2. Go to Settings > Accounts.

  3. Select your Voyced account.

  4. Open Advanced Settings > Incoming Calls.

  5. Select Push Notifications.

  6. Save the setting.

You may also set push notifications globally under Settings > Incoming Calls.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Groundwire.

  2. Select the Keypad tab.

  3. Open Settings > Accounts.

  4. Select your Voyced account.

  5. Open Incoming Calls.

  6. Select Push Notifications.

  7. Save the setting.

Alternatively, use the global Incoming Calls setting.

Check device permissions

On Android, allow Groundwire to receive notifications and operate over mobile data and Wi-Fi.

Review battery optimisation restrictions if incoming calls fail.

On iOS:

  1. Open your device's Settings.

  2. Select Notifications > Groundwire.

  3. Enable Allow Notifications.

  4. Enable sounds, lock-screen notifications and alerts.

How push notifications work

When Groundwire moves into the background, Acrobits' SIP push service maintains a SIP registration using the account credentials.

When a call arrives, the push service alerts your device and Groundwire handles the call.

This process involves Acrobits' service and differs from a normal direct SIP registration on your phone.

Push or Standard mode?

Groundwire normally offers these incoming call modes:

  • Push Notifications: Recommended for receiving calls while Groundwire is not active.

  • Standard: Maintains normal SIP registration while the application is running, subject to your device's background restrictions.

  • Off: Disables incoming call registration for the account.

For most mobile users, start with Push Notifications.

After enabling push, test incoming calls with Groundwire open, in the background and with your screen locked.

5. Voicemail

Voyced provides voicemail access through:

1233

Groundwire includes a dedicated voicemail button.

Configure voicemail

On Android:

  1. Open Settings > Accounts.

  2. Select your Voyced account.

  3. Open Advanced Settings.

  4. Find Voicemail number.

  5. Enter 1233.

  6. Save.

On iOS:

  1. Open the Keypad tab.

  2. Select Settings > Accounts.

  3. Choose your Voyced account.

  4. Open Advanced Settings.

  5. Enter 1233 in the Voicemail number field.

  6. Select Done.

Show the voicemail button

By default, Groundwire may show the voicemail button only when a waiting message is detected.

To keep the button visible:

  1. Open Settings > Preferences > Controls.

  2. Enable Always show voicemail button.

You may now use the voicemail button or dial 1233 directly.

Voicemail notifications

Groundwire supports voicemail notifications when the connected SIP service provides the required message-waiting information.

If you already receive voicemail notifications while Groundwire is open, you may enable Push Voicemail in your account's Push Options.

The exact menu location differs slightly between Android and iOS.

If voicemail notifications are unavailable, dial 1233 to check your messages.

6. Caller ID settings

Caller ID is the telephone number displayed to people you call.

Normally, Voyced sends the telephone number assigned to your SIP account.

Groundwire offers advanced Caller ID settings, but these do not override Voyced's authorised outbound telephone number.

Groundwire Caller ID options

Under Settings > Accounts > Your Voyced Account > Advanced Settings, you may find:

  • Display Name

  • Caller ID

  • Caller ID Method

  • Incoming Caller ID

The Caller ID Method includes options such as From Username, P-Preferred-Identity, P-Asserted-Identity and Remote-Party-ID.

For a standard Voyced installation, leave the Caller ID Method at its default unless Voyced Support advises otherwise.

Display another telephone number

If you want outgoing calls to show another number, such as your company's main telephone number, request the adjustment through Voyced.

  1. Log in to your Voyced client area.

  2. Open a sales support ticket.

  3. Use the subject: Outbound Caller ID adjustment.

  4. List the Voyced DID you are calling from.

  5. Provide the number you want displayed.

When the requested number belongs to the same Voyced account, the change is normally straightforward.

For telephone numbers outside your Voyced account, proof of ownership and additional verification are required.

Voyced Internal DIDs must never be used as public outbound Caller ID numbers.

7. Making international calls

Voyced uses the same international dialling format across your devices.

Always dial:

00 + Country Code + Telephone Number

For example, to call Voyced in the United Kingdom:

00442035000202

Use this format regardless of your current country or the country associated with your Voyced telephone number.

Contacts saved with a plus sign

Some smartphones store international telephone numbers with a leading +.

Groundwire includes a Number Rewriting feature to help adjust telephone numbers before placing calls.

To find this setting:

  1. Open Settings > Accounts.

  2. Select your Voyced account.

  3. Open Advanced Settings > Number rewriting.

  4. Add a rule suited to the telephone number format stored in your contacts.

  5. Save the rule.

  6. Test the resulting dialled number.

The purpose is to convert numbers beginning with + into Voyced's 00 international format, without changing numbers already in the correct format.

Groundwire's rewriting rules include conditions and actions, so check your rule carefully before using it for everyday calling.

For the simplest setup, save international contacts directly in the 00 format.

8. Audio and codec settings

Groundwire supports several voice codecs.

For Voyced, the following options are relevant:

Codec Use
G.722 HD voice where supported
PCMU / G.711 u-law Standard telephone audio
PCMA / G.711 a-law Standard telephone audio
G.729 Optional compressed audio
Opus Optional, where supported
iLBC Optional, where supported

The codecs available in your Groundwire installation depend on the device and application version. Some codecs may require an additional purchase.

Configure audio codecs

On Android:

  1. Open Settings > Accounts.

  2. Select your Voyced account.

  3. Open Advanced Settings.

  4. Select Audio codecs for Wi-Fi or Audio codecs for mobile data.

  5. Enable your preferred codecs.

  6. Adjust their priority if needed.

  7. Save.

On iOS:

  1. Open Settings > Accounts.

  2. Select your Voyced account.

  3. Open Advanced Settings.

  4. Find the audio codec settings.

  5. Adjust the available codec list.

  6. Save.

For broad compatibility, keep PCMU and PCMA enabled.

On suitable connections, G.722 offers higher-quality audio when supported throughout the call.

Groundwire supports different codec choices for Wi-Fi and mobile data, helping you choose suitable audio settings for each connection type.

9. Using multiple Voyced numbers

Groundwire supports multiple SIP accounts.

For example, you might use:

  • Your main office number.

  • Your direct telephone number.

  • A second business number from another country.

To add another Voyced number:

  1. Open Settings > Accounts.

  2. Select +.

  3. Choose Voyced from the provider list.

  4. Enter the second DID and its Service Password.

  5. Save and register.

Repeat for additional accounts.

Select your outgoing number

On the main screen, select the account you want to use for outgoing calls.

Groundwire identifies the active account by its name and status indicator.

Make sure the correct account is selected before placing a call.

Each account uses its own authorised outbound Caller ID, unless Voyced has approved another configuration.

10. Call handling features

Groundwire includes several business telephone features.

Put a call on hold

During an active call, select Hold.

Select the same control to resume the conversation.

Transfer a call

Groundwire supports two transfer methods.

Blind transfer:

  1. During a call, select Transfer.

  2. Enter the destination number or choose a contact.

  3. Select Call to initiate the transfer.

Attended transfer:

  1. During a call, select Att. Transfer.

  2. Choose the destination or enter a telephone number.

  3. Call the destination.

  4. Speak to the receiving person.

  5. Select Transfer to complete.

Successful transfers depend on the capabilities and configuration of your Voyced account.

Conference calls

Groundwire includes controls for adding another participant and merging active calls.

Available conferencing features depend on your account and the connected service.

Call recording

Groundwire provides a local call recording function for supported SIP calls.

If you use call recording, follow the privacy and consent requirements applicable to your calls.

DTMF keypad

During an active call, select Keypad to send telephone menu selections.

This is useful for:

  • Voicemail.

  • Automated telephone menus.

  • Banking and customer service systems.

  • Other systems asking you to press numbers.

Keep the default DTMF configuration initially.

11. Testing your setup

Before relying on Groundwire for everyday calls, carry out these checks.

Outbound calls

  1. Confirm the Voyced account indicator is green.

  2. Call another telephone number.

  3. Check that the call connects.

  4. Confirm audio works in both directions.

  5. Check the Caller ID received by the other person.

Incoming calls

  1. Call your Voyced number from another telephone.

  2. Confirm Groundwire rings.

  3. Answer and test the audio.

  4. Repeat while Groundwire is in the background.

  5. Repeat with the device locked.

Voicemail

Dial 1233 and confirm you reach your Voyced voicemail service.

International calls

Dial an international number using 00 followed by the country code and telephone number.

Mobile data

Disconnect from Wi-Fi and test using mobile data.

Check both outgoing and incoming calls.

12. Troubleshooting

Account does not register

Check that:

  • Your username matches your Voyced DID.

  • Your Service Password is correct.

  • The SIP server is sip.voyced.eu.

  • UDP is selected.

  • The standard port is 5060.

  • Your internet connection works.

If you used Quick Install, try deleting the unsuccessful account and adding it again through the Voyced provider profile.

Calls fail immediately

Make sure your Voyced account is registered.

Check the number you dialled.

For international calls, use 00.

Confirm sufficient call credit is available and the destination is permitted.

Incoming calls do not ring

Check the Incoming Calls setting.

For mobile operation, start with Push Notifications.

Confirm notifications are allowed in your device settings.

Test with Groundwire open, in the background and with the device locked.

If the same Voyced account is registered on several devices, try testing with one device first.

Groundwire rings only when open

Review the account's Incoming Calls setting.

Choose Push Notifications rather than Standard when you want incoming calls while the application is inactive.

Also check battery optimisation and notification settings on your device.

No audio or one-way audio

Check your microphone permissions.

Try another internet connection.

Confirm PCMU and PCMA are enabled.

If the problem continues, contact Voyced Support with the time and destination of an affected call.

Poor call quality

Check your Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.

Avoid overloaded networks.

Review Groundwire's call quality indicator during an active call.

Try another network to see whether the problem continues.

Incorrect Caller ID

Check which Voyced account is selected for outgoing calls.

If you need another outbound telephone number displayed, request the change from Voyced.

Changing the Groundwire Display Name alone does not change the authorised outbound number.

Voicemail button does not work

Check that the Voicemail number is set to 1233.

Alternatively, dial 1233 directly.

International contacts fail

Check Groundwire's Number Rewriting settings.

Make sure the number sent to Voyced starts with 00 followed by the country code and telephone number.

13. Final setup checklist

Before using Groundwire for everyday calls, confirm:

  • Your Voyced account is registered and shows a green indicator.

  • Outgoing calls work.

  • Incoming calls work.

  • Audio works in both directions.

  • Your Caller ID is correct.

  • Voicemail works through 1233.

  • International calls use the 00 prefix.

  • Push notifications have been tested.

  • Incoming calls work while your device is locked.

  • Wi-Fi and mobile data calling have both been tested.

Your Groundwire softphone is ready once these tests succeed.
