SIP Trunk Setup for Zoom Phone
Use Voyced as an external SIP provider
This guide explains how to connect your Voyced telephone number and SIP service to Zoom Phone.
Zoom Phone is a cloud telephone system that allows users to make and receive business calls through the Zoom Workplace application, mobile devices and compatible desk phones.
Zoom Phone supports external telephone providers through its Bring Your Own Carrier (BYOC) service.
Unlike a traditional telephone system, Zoom Phone cannot register directly with Voyced using a SIP username and password.
For a standard Voyced connection, use Zoom Phone Bring Your Own Carrier - Premises Peering (BYOC-P) with a suitable Session Border Controller (SBC).
The SBC connects Zoom Phone to Voyced and handles SIP registration, audio, security and telephone number formatting.
This manual covers:
-
Zoom Phone BYOC-P
-
Connecting an SBC to Zoom Phone
-
SIP registration with Voyced
-
Zoom Route Groups and SIP Groups
-
Adding and assigning Voyced telephone numbers
-

Supported Connection Methods
Zoom Phone offers different ways to connect external telephone providers.
| Method | Description | Suitable for Standard Voyced SIP |
|---|---|---|
| Zoom Phone Native | Zoom provides the telephone service | No |
| BYOC Cloud Peering | Direct connection with a participating carrier | Only if an approved carrier arrangement exists |
| BYOC Premises Peering | Customer SBC connects Zoom to an external provider | Yes, with a compatible SBC |
Zoom also offers Provider Exchange for participating carriers.
A provider can only be connected through that service when it is available in Zoom's provider list and the provider supports that connection method.
The standard Voyced SIP account described here uses BYOC-P.
SBC Requirements
Your SBC must support:
| Requirement | Zoom Phone Side | Voyced Side |
|---|---|---|
| SIP Transport | TLS 1.2 | UDP |
| SIP Port | TCP 5061 towards Zoom | UDP 5060 towards Voyced |
| Authentication | Trusted SBC connection | SIP username/password |

Zoom maintains a list of supported and certified SBC products.
Common SBC families include AudioCodes, Ribbon and Oracle.
Confirm that your chosen model and software version support Zoom BYOC-P and registration-based SIP connections.
The SBC must also support SIP and media conversion between the two services.
SIP Trunk Setup Steps
1. Log in to Zoom Administration
Open:
Log in using an account with the required administration permissions.
-
Open Admin Center.
-
Select Product configuration.
-
Open Numbers.
-
Select BYOC Configuration.
This section manages external carrier connections.
You should see configuration areas for:
-
Session Border Controllers
-
Route Groups
-
SIP Groups
These three components form the connection between Zoom Phone and your external carrier.
If BYOC Configuration is not available, check that your Zoom account is enabled for BYOC-P and has the required subscription and permissions.
2. Prepare Your Session Border Controller
Before adding the SBC to Zoom, configure its network settings.
Your SBC needs a public IP address that Zoom can reach.
Example:
| Setting | Example |
|---|---|
| SBC Name | Voyced-Zoom-SBC |
| Public IP | Your SBC public IP address |
| Zoom SIP Port | TCP 5061 |
| Zoom Transport | TLS |
| Voyced SIP Server | sip.voyced.eu |
| Voyced Destination Port | UDP 5060 |
Use your real public IP address.
The SBC may be:
-
Installed on your premises
-
A virtual machine
-
Hosted in a data centre
-
Part of a managed SBC service
The location does not change the need for a supported connection to Zoom Phone and SIP registration with Voyced.
3. Configure the SBC TLS Certificate
Zoom requires a publicly trusted certificate for secure SIP signalling.
Configure the SBC with:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| TLS Certificate | Publicly trusted |
| Certificate Hostname | Your SBC hostname |
| TLS Version | TLS 1.2 |
| SIP Transport | TLS |
| SIP Listening Port | Your configured Zoom-facing port |
Example SBC hostname:
sbc.yourcompany.com
The certificate must identify the correct SBC hostname and include the required certificate chain.
Use a certificate authority accepted by Zoom.
Install the certificate using your SBC's administration interface.
The exact procedure depends on the SBC manufacturer.
After installation, confirm that the certificate is valid and the SBC can establish TLS connections.
4. Configure the Zoom-Facing SBC Connection
Open your SBC administration interface.
Create a SIP connection for Zoom Phone.
Example:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Connection Name | Zoom Phone |
| SIP Transport | TLS |
| Remote SIP Port | 5061 |
| Media Security | SRTP |
| SIP OPTIONS | Enabled |
| Certificate | Your trusted SBC certificate |
Zoom operates several data centres.
Your SBC must use the SIP signalling destinations provided for the Zoom region assigned to your account.
Do not copy an IP address from another Zoom region.
You can identify the relevant region and connectivity information in your Zoom BYOC configuration.
Configure the SBC using the Zoom interoperability instructions supplied by its manufacturer.
The Zoom-facing connection does not use your Voyced SIP username or password.
5. Configure the Voyced SIP Connection
On the same SBC, create a second SIP connection.
Enter:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Connection Name | Voyced |
| SIP Server | sip.voyced.eu |
| SIP Proxy | sip.voyced.eu |
| SIP Registrar | sip.voyced.eu |
| Destination Port | 5060 |
| Transport | UDP |
| Registration | Enabled |
| Username | Your-Voyced-DID |
| Authentication Username | Your-Voyced-DID |
| Password | YourServicePassword |
The server hostname must be:
sip.voyced.eu
Use your actual Voyced telephone number as the SIP username.
Example:
442012345678
Enter your Voyced service password.
Use standard SIP registration with username/password authentication.
Do not configure the connection as IP-only authentication.
6. Enable SIP Registration
Open the registration settings for the Voyced connection.
Configure:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Registration | Enabled |
| Registrar | sip.voyced.eu |
| Registrar Port | 5060 |
| Username | Your-Voyced-DID |
| Authentication Username | Your-Voyced-DID |
| Password | YourServicePassword |
| Requested Registration Expiry | 3600 seconds initially |
The SBC should send SIP REGISTER requests to Voyced.
A normal authentication sequence may look like:
REGISTER
401 Unauthorized
REGISTER with authentication
200 OK
The initial 401 Unauthorized is a normal SIP authentication challenge.
The final 200 OK confirms successful registration.
If the registrar requires a different expiry interval, use the accepted value.
The SBC must maintain registration while the service is active.
7. Configure Audio Codecs
Your SBC must support compatible audio on both connections.
For the Voyced side, use:
| Codec | Setting |
|---|---|
| G.711 A-law / PCMA | Enabled |
| G.711 μ-law / PCMU | Enabled |
| G.729 | Not required initially |
| Opus | Not required on the Voyced connection |
For Zoom Phone, the SBC may negotiate codecs supported by Zoom, including G.711.
Where possible, use G.711 on both connections.
Configure the SBC to handle the media security difference.
| Zoom Phone | Voyced |
|---|---|
| Secure RTP (SRTP) | Standard RTP |
| Secure SIP signalling | Standard SIP signalling |
Use RFC2833 for telephone keypad signalling.
Zoom also requires incoming SIP INVITE messages from the SBC to contain an SDP media offer.
This is called Early Offer.
Configure the SBC's Zoom connection accordingly.
Save your media settings.
8. Configure Telephone Number Translation
Zoom Phone and Voyced use different international number formats.
Zoom Phone uses a leading +.
Voyced requires digits only.
Example:
| Direction | Number |
|---|---|
| Zoom Phone | +442012345678 |
| Voyced | 442012345678 |
The SBC must convert the number when sending calls towards Voyced.
Outgoing Translation
Configure a called-number translation rule:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Direction | Zoom → Voyced |
| Number Type | Called Number |
| Match | International number beginning with + |
| Action | Remove leading + |
Example:
Original: +442012345678
Translated: 442012345678
If your SBC supports regular expressions, the matching pattern may be:
^\+([1-9][0-9]{7,14})$
Replacement:
$1
Use the replacement format supported by your SBC.
Do not remove the country code.
9. Configure Incoming Number Translation
Calls travelling from Voyced to Zoom require the opposite conversion.
For example:
Voyced: 442012345678
Zoom: +442012345678
Configure:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Direction | Voyced → Zoom |
| Number Type | Called Number |
| Match | International digits-only number |
| Action | Add leading + |
Example:
Original: 442012345678
Translated: +442012345678
A suitable regular expression is:
^([1-9][0-9]{7,14})$
Replacement:
+$1
Zoom must receive the called number in the format assigned to the user or telephone service.
For BYOC-P, Zoom expects international numbers in E.164 format.
Check the SBC's incoming SIP Request-URI to confirm the correct number is sent.
10. Configure Outbound Caller ID
Your outgoing calls must present a telephone number authorised for your Voyced account.
Zoom normally identifies telephone numbers using a leading +.
Example:
+442012345678
Configure the SBC to present the authorised number in the format required by Voyced.
For example:
442012345678
Check the relevant SIP identity headers:
-
From
-
P-Asserted-Identity
These may be used by the SBC and provider to identify the calling number.
For the first connection test, use your registered Voyced number as the outgoing caller ID.
If you have additional authorised telephone numbers, configure the appropriate presentation rules for those numbers.
11. Configure SBC Call Routing
The SBC needs two main call routes.
Outgoing Calls
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Source | Zoom Phone |
| Destination | Voyced |
| SIP Server | sip.voyced.eu |
| Transport | UDP |
| Destination Port | 5060 |
| Called Number | International digits-only |
Incoming Calls
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Source | Voyced |
| Destination | Zoom Phone |
| Transport | TLS |
| Media | SRTP |
| Called Number | International format with + |
For incoming calls, the SBC must recognise the SIP connection associated with the registered Voyced account.
It must preserve the actual called telephone number so Zoom can identify the destination.
Save both call routes.
12. Add the SBC to Zoom Phone
Return to Zoom Administration.
Navigate to:
Admin Center → Product configuration → Numbers → BYOC Configuration
Next:
-
Find Session Border Controllers.

| Press 3 | Reception |
Assign your Voyced number to the Auto Receptionist through Number Management.
Save.
Make an incoming test call to confirm the menu and destinations work.
20. Configure Additional Voyced Numbers
If several telephone numbers are delivered through one Voyced SIP account, they can share the existing SBC connection.
Add each number under:
Product configuration → Numbers → Phone Numbers
Select Add Number → BYOC Number.
Example:
| Voyced Number | Zoom Destination |
|---|---|
| Primary Voyced DID | Reception |
| Additional Voyced DID | Sales |
| Additional Voyced DID | Support |
Each number must:
-
Be added as a BYOC number.
-
Belong to the correct Zoom Phone site.
-
Be assigned to the Voyced SIP Group.
-
Have the correct user or service destination.
You do not normally need separate SIP registrations for additional telephone numbers delivered through the same Voyced account.
The SBC must preserve the called number so Zoom can distinguish between the DIDs.
21. Configure Outgoing Call Routing
Zoom normally routes outgoing calls through the SIP Group assigned to the user's telephone number.
For a standard installation, you may not need a separate Routing Rule.
Check that:
-
The user has a Zoom Phone licence.
-
The user has a suitable calling package.
-
The user's telephone number belongs to the Voyced SIP Group.
-
The SIP Group points to the Voyced Route Group.
-
The Route Group contains the Voyced SBC.
The normal outgoing route is:
Zoom Phone User
|
v
Voyced SIP Group
|
v
Voyced Route Group
|
v
Voyced SBC
|
v
sip.voyced.eu
The SBC sends the call to Voyced after converting the destination number.
22. Create a Custom Routing Rule, If Required
If your organisation uses several external telephone providers, you may need more specific routing.
Navigate to:
Product configuration → Phone system → Company Info
Open:
Account Settings → Settings
Find:
Routing
Next to Routing Rules, click Manage.
Click Add Routing Rule.
Configure:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Rule Name | Voyced International |
| Level | Account, Site or Group |
| Number Pattern | Your permitted destination pattern |
| Routing Path | Voyced SIP Group |
For example, a broad international number expression is:
^\+[1-9][0-9]{7,14}$
This matches international numbers with a leading +.
Use the Test function to confirm the number matches the intended rule.
When selecting a specific SIP Group, choose the group linked to your BYOC-P Route Group.
Save.
If your organisation already uses normal PSTN routing through the telephone number's assigned SIP Group, keep that arrangement.
Custom routing rules are mainly useful when different destinations need different connections.
23. Check Outbound Caller ID
Zoom Phone allows users to select or configure the caller ID used for outbound calls.
For the first test, use your assigned Voyced telephone number.
Example inside Zoom Phone:
+442012345678
The SBC must send an authorised caller ID towards Voyced.
For example:
442012345678
Check the SBC's outgoing SIP identity settings.
The relevant SIP headers may include:
-
From
-
P-Asserted-Identity
If your business has several authorised Voyced numbers, configure the appropriate caller ID selection for each user.
Do not present telephone numbers that your Voyced account is not authorised to use.
24. Configure Simultaneous Call Capacity
Your effective call capacity depends on:
-
The simultaneous calls included with your Voyced service
-
Your SBC session licence
-
Your SBC processing capacity
-
Zoom Phone configuration
-
Any additional limits configured on the SBC
For example:
| Component | Example Capacity |
|---|---|
| Voyced Service | 4 simultaneous calls |
| SBC | 4 concurrent sessions |
| Zoom Phone | According to your subscription |
These values are examples.
Use the actual capacity available on your service.
If several Zoom users share one Voyced SIP account, their combined incoming and outgoing calls must remain within the service limit.
Configure suitable limits on the SBC where required.
25. Configure Firewall and Network Access
The SBC must communicate with Zoom and Voyced.
Zoom Phone Connection
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| SIP Transport | TLS |
| SIP Signalling | TCP 5061 towards Zoom |
| Media | SRTP |
| Zoom Media Range | UDP 10000–64000 |
| SBC Public IP | Your configured public address |
Zoom publishes region-specific SIP signalling addresses and media networks.
Use the addresses assigned to your Zoom region.
The actual destination ports on your SBC may depend on your SBC configuration.
Voyced Connection
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| SIP Server | sip.voyced.eu |
| Destination SIP Port | UDP 5060 |
| Registration | Enabled |
| Audio | RTP |
| Codecs | G.711 A-law / μ-law |
The Voyced-side RTP range depends on your SBC configuration.
The SBC must be able to send and receive the relevant signalling and media traffic.
NAT
If your SBC is behind NAT, check:
-
Public IP address
-
SIP signalling addresses
-
RTP media addresses
-
Firewall session handling
-
Correct TLS access from Zoom
-
Correct SIP registration towards Voyced
The Zoom and Voyced connections must be tested separately.
26. Configure Emergency Calling
Zoom Phone supports emergency calling policies and emergency addresses.
The correct configuration depends on your country, number type and carrier connection.
Review the existing emergency calling setup under Zoom Phone administration.
Confirm:
-
The intended emergency call route
-
Whether your Voyced service supports the required emergency destinations
-
The caller's emergency location information
-
Any site-based emergency calling settings
-
The required caller ID
Keep an existing approved emergency calling route in place unless the new route has been verified.
Normal international call routing does not automatically establish the correct emergency calling service.
Testing Your Setup
1. Test Voyced SIP Registration
Open the SBC administration interface.
Find the Voyced SIP connection.
Expected status:
Registered
Check that the registrar is:
sip.voyced.eu
If registration fails, review:
-
SIP username

Password
-
Registrar hostname
-
SIP destination port
-
DNS resolution
Do not continue with incoming call testing until registration works.
2. Test Zoom SBC Connectivity
In Zoom Administration, open:
Product configuration → Numbers → BYOC Configuration
Check:
-
SBC is In-Service.
-
Route Group is configured.
-
SIP Group exists.
-
The correct SBC is assigned.
-
The SBC responds to SIP OPTIONS.
Zoom monitors SBC availability using SIP OPTIONS messages.
If the SBC does not respond correctly, Zoom may stop routing calls through that connection.
Check the SBC's Zoom-facing TLS connection and SIP OPTIONS handling.
3. Test an Outbound Call
-
Open Zoom Workplace.
-
Select Phone.
-
Open the dial pad.
-
Enter an international telephone number.
-
Place a call.
Example:
+442012345678
Zoom routes the call through the SIP Group and SBC.
The SBC converts the number to:
442012345678
before sending it to Voyced.
Check:
-
The correct SIP Group is selected.
-
The SBC receives the call.
-
The number translation works.
-
Voyced accepts the call.

The destination rings.
-
Two-way audio works.
-
The correct caller ID appears.
4. Test an Incoming Call
-
Call your Voyced number from an external mobile telephone.
-
Confirm the SBC receives the incoming SIP call.
-
Check the called number.
-
Confirm the SBC converts it to Zoom's international format.
-
Check Zoom receives the call.
-
Verify the correct user, queue or Auto Receptionist rings.
-
Answer the call.
-
Test two-way audio.
Example:
| Stage | Called Number |
|---|---|
| Voyced | 442012345678 |
| SBC Translation | +442012345678 |
| Zoom Phone | +442012345678 |
| Destination | Assigned user or service |
Test each additional Voyced DID separately.
5. Test a Call Queue or Auto Receptionist
If your Voyced number is assigned to a shared telephone service:
-
Call the number.
-
Confirm the greeting plays.
-
Check the configured routing.
-
Test the available menu options.
-
Confirm calls reach the correct destination.
-
Check the configured no-answer destination.
If you have business hours and closed hours, test both configurations.
6. Test Simultaneous Calls
Place more than one call at the same time, within your Voyced service capacity.
For example:
-
Start an outbound call.
-
Keep it connected.
-
Place an incoming call to another Zoom user.
-
Confirm both calls remain active.
-
Check audio in both directions.
If the second call fails, review the SBC and service capacity settings.
Troubleshooting
Zoom Phone Cannot Register Directly to Voyced
Zoom Phone does not support external SIP REGISTER authentication in the same way as a traditional PBX.
The normal Voyced connection requires an SBC that can register with Voyced and connect to Zoom using BYOC-P.
Do not enter sip.voyced.eu as though it were a direct Zoom Phone registration server.
BYOC Configuration Is Missing
Check:
-
Zoom Phone subscription
-
BYOC-P availability
-
Administrator permissions
-
Account provisioning
The BYOC-P feature must be available on your Zoom account.
If it is not enabled, the SBC, Route Group or SIP Group configuration may not appear.
SBC Is Not Reachable
Check:
-
Public SBC IP address
-
Zoom-facing TLS port
-
Firewall rules
-
SBC certificate
-
Zoom signalling addresses
-
SIP OPTIONS handling
The SBC must accept the required signalling from Zoom's assigned region.
SBC Is In-Service but Calls Fail
In-Service means Zoom is permitted to route calls to the SBC.
It does not confirm:
-
Voyced SIP registration
-
Correct SIP routing
-
Number translation
-
Audio connectivity
Test both connections separately.
Voyced SIP Registration Fails
Check:
-
Registrar is
sip.voyced.eu. -
Username is correct.
-
Authentication username is correct.
-
Service password is correct.
-
Registration is enabled.
-
Destination port is UDP 5060.
-
DNS resolution works.
Look for the final 200 OK response to the authenticated REGISTER request.
401 or 407 Error
These responses indicate SIP authentication is required.
An initial authentication challenge may be normal.
If authentication repeatedly fails, check:
-
SIP username
-
Service password
-
Authentication realm
-
Registration credentials
-
Subsequent authenticated REGISTER requests
For outgoing calls, also check the SBC's INVITE authentication settings.
403 Error
Check:
-
Voyced account status
-
SIP authentication
-
Caller ID authorisation
-
Calling permissions
-
Any account restrictions
If the error comes from Zoom, review the Route Group, SIP Group and telephone number assignment.
404 Error
Check:
-
Called number
-
Number translation
-
SIP Request-URI
-
Incoming DID assignment
-
Outbound routing
-
Which system returned the response
For example, if the SBC sends:
+442012345678
to Voyced, review the outgoing number translation.
The number should be:
442012345678
Incoming Calls Do Not Ring
Check:
-
Voyced registration
-
SBC incoming route
-
Incoming number translation
-
Zoom SIP Group
-
BYOC number assignment
-
Receiving user or service
-
Zoom SBC connectivity
If the SBC receives the call but Zoom does not recognise the destination, inspect the called number in the SIP Request-URI.
Zoom expects the correct international number for the assigned DID.
All Incoming Calls Reach One Destination
Check whether the SBC preserves the actual called telephone number.
Several Voyced DIDs may share one SIP registration.
The SBC must not replace every incoming called number with the registered account number.
Inspect the incoming SIP INVITE and the called number sent towards Zoom.
Outbound Calls Do Not Use Voyced
Check:
-
User's Zoom Phone licence and calling package
-
Assigned telephone number
-
SIP Group assignment
-
Route Group assignment
-
SBC availability
-
Custom Routing Rules, if used
For normal BYOC-P calling, the SIP Group assigned to the user's telephone number determines the carrier route.
Incorrect Number Format
Zoom uses:
+442012345678
Voyced expects:
442012345678
Check the SBC's number translation rules.
Make sure the correct rule applies in each direction.
Do not remove the country code.
Incorrect Outbound Caller ID
Check:
-
Zoom caller ID settings
-
Assigned telephone number
-
SBC From header
-
SBC P-Asserted-Identity
-
Number translation
-
Authorised Voyced numbers
For the first test, use your registered Voyced telephone number.
One-Way Audio
Check:
-
Zoom SRTP connectivity
-
SBC media configuration
-
Voyced RTP connectivity
-
Firewall rules
-
NAT handling
-
Codec negotiation
-
SDP media addresses
The SBC must handle audio correctly on both connections.
Successful SIP registration does not guarantee working telephone audio.
Calls Disconnect After Approximately 30 Seconds
Check:
-
SIP ACK delivery
-
TLS signalling
-
UDP session handling
-
NAT configuration
-
Firewall timeouts
-
SBC SIP timers
Inspect the SIP signalling on both the Zoom and Voyced sides of the SBC.
Incoming Calls Receive 488 Not Acceptable Here
Zoom requires a compatible SIP INVITE containing an SDP media offer.
Check:
-
Early Offer configuration
-
Audio codecs
-
SRTP encryption
-
DTMF telephone-event signalling
-
SDP formatting
The SBC must send the media offer with the initial INVITE.
Also confirm that the selected codecs and encryption methods are supported by Zoom.
SIP OPTIONS Fail
Zoom uses SIP OPTIONS to check SBC availability.
Check:
-
The SBC responds to OPTIONS requests.
-
The correct source addresses are permitted.
-
TLS connectivity is working.
-
The SBC uses the correct signalling port.
-
The Route Group is configured for the correct region.
An SBC that fails OPTIONS monitoring may be removed temporarily from call routing.
Calls Fail After Transfer
Check:
-
SBC transfer settings
-
SIP REFER handling
-
Re-INVITE handling
-
Number translation
-
Media negotiation
-
Destination availability
Use your SBC manufacturer's Zoom Phone interoperability settings.
Simultaneous Call Capacity Is Reached
Check:
-
Voyced service capacity
-
SBC session capacity
-
Current active calls
-
Any SBC call admission limits
Configure the limits according to your available service.
Reviewing Call Logs
Zoom provides call logs and quality monitoring.
Open:
Admin Center → Product configuration → Phone system
Use the available phone logs and dashboard reports to inspect failed calls.
For detailed SIP troubleshooting, use the SBC's diagnostic functions.
Inspect:
-
SIP INVITE
-
SIP REGISTER
-
Request-URI
-
From
-
To
-
P-Asserted-Identity
-
SIP response codes
-
SDP information
-
RTP and SRTP negotiation
Check both the Zoom-facing and Voyced-facing calls.
This helps identify whether a problem occurs before the SBC, inside the SBC or on the external carrier connection.
