4PSA VoipNow

SIP Trunk Setup for 4PSA VoipNow

Use Voyced as an external SIP provider

This guide explains how to connect your Voyced telephone number and SIP trunk to 4PSA VoipNow, allowing your business to make and receive telephone calls through Voyced.

VoipNow supports external SIP providers using standard registration with a username, password and SIP server.

Unlike some other PBX systems, VoipNow calls external SIP connections SIP Channels.

This manual covers the current VoipNow administration interface, including SIP channels, public telephone numbers, outgoing routing groups and charging plans.

What You'll Need

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Administrator access to your 4PSA VoipNow system

  • A working VoipNow installation

  • At least one configured organisation, user and telephone extension

  • A working internet connection

  • Permission to manage SIP channels and outgoing routing

  • An active Voyced telephone number

Your Voyced SIP details:

Setting Value
SIP Server sip.voyced.eu
SIP Username Your-Voyced-DID
SIP Password YourServicePassword
SIP Destination Port 5060
Transport UDP
Authentication Username and password

Replace the example username and password with your actual Voyced service details.

Requirements Before You Begin

Your VoipNow system must have:

  • A working network connection

  • Correct DNS settings

  • An available SIP channel

  • At least one telephone extension for testing

  • Sufficient simultaneous call capacity

  • The appropriate permissions for incoming and outgoing calls

Recommended audio codecs:

  • PCMA / G.711 A-law

  • PCMU / G.711 μ-law

Your firewall must permit the required SIP signalling and RTP audio traffic.

Use full international telephone numbers without a leading + when sending calls to Voyced.

Example:

442012345678

Permitted Calling Traffic

Voyced provides retail-quality telephone services intended for normal business conversations.

VoipNow supports applications that can automate calling. However, Voyced does not permit predictive dialling, automated bulk calling or short-burst traffic.

Use Voyced for incoming calls, normal business conversations and individually initiated outbound calls.

SIP Trunk Setup Steps

1. Log in to VoipNow

  1. Open your VoipNow administration interface.

  2. Log in using your system administrator account.

  3. Select System from the left-hand menu.

  4. Click Channels.

  5. Locate the Trunks section.

  6. Click Add SIP Channel.

This opens the SIP channel configuration.

VoipNow supports several channel types, including SIP, PRI and ENUM.

For Voyced, select SIP.

2. Create the Voyced SIP Channel

Under the channel details, enter:

Field Value
Name Voyced SIP Trunk
Clone settings from channel Leave empty
Channel groups Optional
Channel notes Voyced business telephone service

If you already use several SIP providers, you may assign the channel to an existing group for easier management.

For your first Voyced connection, you can leave Channel groups empty.

Continue to Channel Preferences.

3. Configure the SIP Server

Under Channel Preferences, locate:

Send calls to IP : port

Enter:

Field Value
Server / Hostname sip.voyced.eu
Port 5060

The server hostname must be:

sip.voyced.eu

If the interface provides a single address field, enter the hostname and port in the format accepted by that field.

For example:

sip.voyced.eu:5060

The hostname identifies the Voyced SIP server.

VoipNow uses this address for outgoing telephone calls.

Keep the default SIP signalling transport set to UDP.

4. Enter Your Voyced Authentication Details

Still under Channel Preferences, enter:

Field Value
Username Your-Voyced-DID
Password YourServicePassword
Confirm password YourServicePassword
Authorization username Your-Voyced-DID
Do not register Unchecked

The Username identifies your SIP account during registration.

The Authorization username is used when Voyced requests SIP authentication.

For a standard Voyced account, both values are the same.

For example:

442012345678

The password is your Voyced SIP service password.

The Do not register option must remain unchecked.

VoipNow will then register with Voyced using the supplied credentials.

5. Configure SIP Identity Settings

Locate the following fields:

Field Value
From user Your-Voyced-DID
From domain sip.voyced.eu
Authorization extension Your-Voyced-DID

These settings identify your SIP account in SIP messages.

The From user specifies the username used in the SIP From header.

The From domain identifies the SIP domain.

The Authorization extension controls the username used in the Contact header when VoipNow registers with the provider.

For the standard configuration, use your Voyced telephone number.

If your installation already generates the correct Contact username automatically, you may leave Authorization extension at its default.

6. Configure Channel Capabilities

Under Channel Preferences, locate Channel capabilities.

Select:

Both

The available choices are:

Option Purpose
Incoming Receive calls only
Outgoing Make calls only
Both Make and receive calls

Select Both for a normal Voyced telephone connection.

Next, configure:

Concurrent calls (outgoing+incoming)

Enter the total simultaneous call capacity available on your Voyced service.

For example:

Field Example
Concurrent calls (outgoing+incoming) 4

This example permits a maximum of four concurrent calls in total, whether incoming, outgoing or a combination.

Use the actual capacity of your Voyced service.

Do not enter the number of telephone extensions here. This setting controls simultaneous external calls.

7. Configure the Channel Charging Type

Locate the channel's Charging plan or channel type selection.

VoipNow offers:

  • Paid

  • Free

For a normal metered Voyced connection, select:

Paid

This tells VoipNow that the SIP channel has an associated calling cost.

It does not set your actual Voyced call rates automatically.

If your VoipNow installation tracks carrier costs, configure those rates separately using the channel costs section.

The Free setting is intended for channels that VoipNow should treat as having no carrier call costs.

Use Paid for the normal setup.

8. Configure Caller ID and DTMF

Still under Channel Preferences, enter:

Field Value
CallerID for outgoing calls Your-Voyced-DID
DTMF mode rfc2833
Prefix all calls with Leave empty

The caller ID should be a telephone number authorised for presentation on your Voyced account.

For example:

442012345678

DTMF mode rfc2833 supports telephone keypad input for IVR menus, voicemail and similar services.

Leave Prefix all calls with empty.

Voyced expects the complete international telephone number without extra digits.

9. Configure NAT and SIP Connectivity

Locate the remaining network settings.

Use:

Field Value
Behind NAT Enable only if required by your network
Qualify value Leave at default initially
SIP Signaling Transport UDP
ICE Support Disabled
Encryption Disabled initially
DTLS Enable Disabled

Behind NAT

Enable this option if your VoipNow SIP service is behind a router performing Network Address Translation.

If your VoipNow server has a correctly configured public IP address, keep the setting appropriate to that arrangement.

Qualify Value

This determines whether VoipNow checks the availability of the remote SIP service.

Keep the existing default for the first test.

If registration succeeds but the channel appears unavailable because of SIP OPTIONS responses, review this setting.

Session Timers

Keep the default session timer configuration.

VoipNow normally uses:

Setting Default
Session timers Accept
Session refresh interval 1800 seconds
Minimum session refresh interval 90 seconds

These settings normally do not require changes for the initial connection.

10. Configure Audio Codecs

Locate Channel codecs.

Select:

  1. G.711 A-law

  2. G.711 μ-law

Recommended settings:

Codec Setting
G.711 A-law Enabled
G.711 μ-law Enabled
G.729 Not required
G.722 Not required
Opus Not required

Where codec ordering is available, place G.711 A-law first.

These codecs provide standard telephone audio.

You may leave other codecs available for internal VoipNow extensions, but the Voyced SIP channel should offer the codecs supported by the external connection.

11. Configure Incoming SIP Identification

VoipNow provides two relevant settings:

  • Accept calls from IPs

  • Trusted channel

Accept Calls From IPs

This field restricts which SIP signalling addresses VoipNow will accept for the channel.

For the initial setup, retain any existing provider settings.

If you use source-address restrictions, enter the confirmed signalling addresses used for incoming calls.

VoipNow supports multiple addresses in this field.

Trusted Channel

The Trusted channel option controls whether VoipNow accepts incoming SIP requests from recognised channel sources without further SIP authentication.

Leave the existing setting unchanged for the initial registration test.

If registration succeeds but incoming INVITE requests are rejected because the provider does not authenticate them, review this option.

Before enabling Trusted channel, make sure incoming calls are restricted to the correct provider signalling sources.

This prevents unrelated SIP requests from being treated as calls from your provider.

12. Assign the SIP Server Node

VoipNow can run across multiple SIP nodes.

In the SIP channel configuration, locate Calls Distribution.

Use:

SIP node assign

Select the SIP node that should handle the Voyced channel.

For a single-server installation, this will normally be your existing SIP node.

For a multi-node installation, choose the node responsible for the intended SIP connection.

Use the same node consistently for the channel registration and incoming call handling.

Save the selection.

13. Save the Voyced SIP Channel

After completing the configuration:

  1. Review your SIP server details.

  2. Confirm your username and password.

  3. Confirm Do not register is unchecked.

  4. Confirm Channel capabilities is Both.

  5. Confirm the concurrent call limit.

  6. Confirm UDP transport is selected.

  7. Confirm your codec selection.

  8. Click OK.

If you want to add your Voyced telephone number immediately, select:

Set up the public phone numbers assigned to the channel

If you prefer to add it afterwards, leave this unchecked.

Your Voyced SIP channel will now appear under:

System → Channels

Check that its status is enabled.

14. Add Your Voyced Telephone Number

VoipNow manages incoming telephone numbers separately from SIP channel registration.

Navigate to:

System → Channels

  1. Click Voyced SIP Trunk.

  2. Select Add Phone Numbers.

  3. Choose the manual entry option.

Enter:

Field Value
Public phone number Your-Voyced-DID
DID Your-Voyced-DID
Location Your number's country or location
Monthly amount paid to provider Your actual cost, if required
Incoming calls cost Your applicable cost
Assignation method Exclusive

For example:

Field Value
Public phone number 442012345678
DID 442012345678
Assignation method Exclusive

The Public phone number identifies the number your callers dial.

The DID identifies the number VoipNow receives from the SIP provider.

For the standard connection, these values are normally the same.

If incoming calls contain a different DID format, enter the actual received value in the DID field.

Click OK.

15. Assign the Telephone Number to an Account

Creating a public number does not automatically assign it to an extension.

VoipNow uses an account hierarchy:

Service Provider
      |
      v
Organisation
      |
      v
User
      |
      v
Extension

The telephone number must be made available to the account or extension that will receive incoming calls.

To assign it:

  1. Navigate to System → Channels.

  2. Select Voyced SIP Trunk.

  3. Open its public telephone numbers.

  4. Select your Voyced number.

  5. Click Assign to Entity.

  6. Choose the account or extension.

  7. Select the required destination.

  8. Click OK.

Available assignment types include:

  • Service Provider

  • Organisation

  • User

  • Extension

For a simple installation, assign the number to the required extension.

For a hosted multi-tenant installation, first make sure the number is available to the correct service provider, organisation and user.

Exclusive and Stacked Numbers

VoipNow supports two number assignment methods.

Method Purpose
Exclusive Numbers allocated to specific accounts
Stacked Numbers available from a shared pool

For a normal business connection, Exclusive is the preferred starting choice.

Use Stacked only when you deliberately manage a shared pool of telephone numbers across customers.

16. Configure the Incoming Call Destination

Once your Voyced number has been assigned, confirm which extension receives it.

For a normal telephone extension:

  1. Open the organisation or user account.

  2. Locate the assigned telephone extension.

  3. Open the extension settings.

  4. Review its public telephone numbers.

  5. Confirm the Voyced DID is assigned.

  6. Check the incoming call handling settings.

For example:

Setting Value
Public Number Your-Voyced-DID
Destination Reception Extension
Extension Your configured reception extension

VoipNow supports several destination types, including:

  • Phone terminal extensions

  • IVR extensions

  • Queue extensions

  • Voicemail services

If several employees should receive incoming calls, assign the public number to an appropriate queue or IVR extension.

You can also configure incoming call rules for the receiving extension.

Save the changes.

17. Configure Multiple Voyced Numbers

If several telephone numbers are delivered through the same Voyced SIP account, add them to the existing SIP channel.

Navigate to:

System → Channels → Voyced SIP Trunk

Click Add Phone Numbers.

Enter each additional number.

Example:

Public Phone Number Destination
Primary Voyced DID Reception
Additional Voyced DID Sales
Additional Voyced DID Support

Each number needs an appropriate DID value and account assignment.

Use the full international number format.

Separate SIP registrations are not required for additional numbers delivered through the same SIP account.

If a number has separate Voyced login credentials, configure it using the appropriate SIP channel and account details.

18. Create an Outgoing Routing Group

VoipNow uses outgoing routing groups to select the SIP channel for external calls.

Navigate to:

System → Channels

Under Trunks, click:

Outgoing Routing Groups

Next:

  1. Click Add Outgoing Routing Group.

  2. Enter a name.

  3. Configure the routing rules.

Example:

Field Value
Name Voyced Outbound
Set as default routing group Only if Voyced should be the system default

If your installation already has a working routing group, you may add Voyced to the existing group instead.

Do not replace existing routing rules without reviewing their current destinations.

19. Configure the Outbound Routing Rule

Under Add Outgoing Call Rules, create a rule.

For the simplest configuration, users dial full international numbers directly.

Example:

442012345678

Enter:

Setting Value
Target number matches Your permitted international destination pattern
Time interval Anytime
Caller number All permitted extensions
Action Route through
Channel Voyced SIP Trunk
Target-number modification None
Caller ID modification None
Rule type Final

Use a pattern matching the international numbers your users are permitted to call.

For example, a broad digit pattern can match numbers starting with digits 1 to 9.

If your organisation already has more specific destination rules, retain them.

Select the Voyced SIP channel explicitly rather than Best cost when you want this rule to use Voyced.

This prevents VoipNow from automatically selecting another channel based on tariff information.

Save the rule.

20. Configure Number Prefix Removal, If Required

Some businesses use a dialling prefix such as 9 to access external calls.

If your users dial:

9442012345678

VoipNow must remove the first digit before sending the call to Voyced.

The resulting number must be:

442012345678

VoipNow supports this through its outgoing routing rules.

Open:

System → Channels → Outgoing Routing Groups

Select Voyced Outbound.

Add a Process target number rule, or apply the equivalent number modification within the Route through action.

Configure:

Setting Value
Target number Numbers beginning with your access prefix
Action Delete from
Digits to remove 1
Position Beginning of the number

Place the processing action before the final routing action when using separate rules.

Do not remove a digit if users already dial the full international number directly.

Example

Stage Number
User dials 9442012345678
Remove access prefix 442012345678
Number sent to Voyced 442012345678

Save the routing rules.

Review their order, as VoipNow processes the rules according to their configured positions.

21. Configure the Charging Plan

VoipNow can link outgoing routing groups to charging plans.

If charging is enabled on your system, the relevant account must have a suitable plan to place calls.

Navigate to:

System → Charging Plans

Select an existing plan or click Add a Charging Plan.

Check:

Field Value
Name Your existing business calling plan
Outgoing routing rules group Voyced Outbound
Allow calls to public network Enabled
Allow incoming calls from any network Enabled, where required

The outgoing routing group determines how external calls are routed.

The charging plan determines whether the account is allowed to place those calls and how VoipNow accounts for their cost.

Keep your existing charging method, prices and credit limits unless you need to change them.

If you create a new plan, configure its charging policy and rates according to your business requirements.

The settings in VoipNow do not change your Voyced calling tariff.

22. Assign the Routing Group and Charging Plan

The correct routing group must be available to the users who will place outbound calls.

Open the relevant:

Service Provider → Organisation → User

Review the user's calling configuration.

Check:

Setting Value
Charging Plan A plan permitting public calls
Outgoing Routing Group Voyced Outbound
Public Calling Permission Enabled
Available Credit or Limit Sufficient for test calls

If charging is enabled but no valid charging plan is assigned to a user, VoipNow may prevent that user's extensions from placing calls.

If the system uses account-level restrictions, confirm that the relevant parent accounts also permit external calling.

Save any changes.

23. Configure Outbound Caller ID

Your outbound calls should present a telephone number authorised for your Voyced account.

VoipNow supports caller ID settings through the channel and extensions.

For a shared company caller ID:

  1. Open System → Channels.

  2. Select Voyced SIP Trunk.

  3. Click Edit Channel.

  4. Locate CallerID for outgoing calls.

  5. Enter your Voyced telephone number.

Example:

Your-Voyced-DID

For individual extensions, review their CallerID settings.

Where you want different authorised numbers to appear for different users, assign the appropriate public telephone numbers to those users.

Make sure outgoing routing rules do not add unwanted caller ID prefixes.

24. Configure Firewall and NAT

Your VoipNow server must communicate with:

sip.voyced.eu

Recommended network settings:

Setting Value
SIP Server sip.voyced.eu
SIP Destination Port UDP 5060
SIP Registration Enabled
SIP Transport UDP
RTP Ports According to your VoipNow configuration
SIP ALG Disabled if it causes problems

VoipNow uses RTP for telephone audio.

The RTP port range depends on your VoipNow installation and SIP node configuration.

If your system is behind NAT:

  1. Check the public IP address used for SIP signalling.

  2. Confirm the correct network settings are configured.

  3. Review the SIP channel's Behind NAT option.

  4. Ensure the necessary RTP traffic can pass through the firewall.

For multi-node installations, check the network configuration of the SIP node assigned to the Voyced channel.

Testing Your Setup

SIP Registration Test

  1. Open System → Channels.

  2. Select Voyced SIP Trunk.

  3. Confirm the channel is enabled.

  4. Review its registration or SIP connection information.

A successfully registered SIP channel should be able to send calls using its configured credentials.

If the administration interface does not display registration status, check the SIP signalling diagnostics on the assigned SIP node.

A successful registration normally includes a SIP 200 OK response to an authenticated REGISTER request.

Inbound Test

  1. Call your Voyced telephone number from an external mobile telephone.

  2. Confirm VoipNow receives the call.

  3. Check that the correct DID is identified.

  4. Verify that the assigned extension, IVR or queue receives the call.

  5. Answer the call.

  6. Check audio in both directions.

For multiple telephone numbers, test each DID separately.

Outbound Test

  1. Pick up a telephone registered to VoipNow.

  2. Dial a permitted external destination.

  3. Confirm VoipNow selects the Voyced SIP channel.

  4. Verify the destination telephone rings.

  5. Answer the call.

  6. Check two-way audio.

  7. Confirm the correct caller ID appears.

Example destination:

442012345678

The final telephone number sent to Voyced must contain the country code without a leading + or an unwanted access prefix.

Troubleshooting

SIP Registration Fails

Check:

  • SIP server is sip.voyced.eu

  • Username is Your-Voyced-DID

  • Password is YourServicePassword

  • Authorization username is correct

  • Do not register is unchecked

  • UDP transport is selected

  • Destination port is 5060

  • DNS resolution works

Also confirm that the assigned SIP node is running and has network access.

401 or 407 Error

These responses indicate an SIP authentication challenge.

An initial challenge is normal.

If authentication repeatedly fails, check:

  • SIP Username

  • Authorization username

  • Service password

  • Authentication realm

  • Subsequent authenticated REGISTER or INVITE requests

403 Error

Check:

  • Account status

  • SIP authentication

  • Outbound calling permissions

  • Caller ID authorisation

  • Calling restrictions

404 Error

Check:

  • Destination telephone number

  • Outgoing routing group

  • Number modification

  • SIP Request-URI

  • Incoming DID matching

  • Which system returned the response

If the outgoing number includes an unwanted access prefix, review the routing group's processing rules.

Incoming Calls Do Not Ring

Check:

  • SIP registration

  • Channel capabilities set to Both

  • Incoming SIP channel identification

  • Public phone number

  • DID value

  • Account assignment

  • Extension or queue destination

  • Incoming calling permissions

If VoipNow receives the SIP INVITE but does not recognise the correct number, compare the received DID with the number configured in Public Phone Numbers.

Incoming Calls Are Rejected

Check whether the incoming SIP request is associated with the correct Voyced channel.

Review:

  • Accept calls from IPs

  • Trusted channel

  • SIP source identification

  • Channel capabilities

If incoming requests use different signalling addresses, make sure the configuration recognises the appropriate sources.

Outbound Calls Fail

Check:

  • SIP channel status

  • Outgoing routing rules group

  • Matching destination pattern

  • Selected channel

  • Assigned charging plan

  • Available credit or account limits

  • Caller ID

  • Simultaneous call capacity

Outbound Calls Use Another Provider

Open:

System → Channels → Outgoing Routing Groups

Review the matching rule.

If you want the call to use Voyced, select:

Route through → Voyced SIP Trunk

rather than:

Route through → Best cost

Also confirm that another rule does not match the number first.

Outbound Number Has the Wrong Format

The final number sent to Voyced must be in international digits-only format.

Correct:

442012345678

Check:

  • Prefix all calls with

  • Process target number rules

  • Route through number modifications

  • Internal outside-line access prefixes

Remove unwanted prefixes before routing the call.

User Cannot Place External Calls

Check:

  • Charging plan assignment

  • Allow calls to public network

  • Outgoing routing group

  • Account credit or limits

  • Parent account permissions

  • User calling permissions

If charging is enabled, an account without an appropriate charging plan may be unable to place external calls.

One-Way Audio

Check:

  • RTP connectivity

  • Firewall configuration

  • NAT handling

  • Public IP address

  • Codec negotiation

  • SIP ALG

A successful SIP registration does not guarantee working telephone audio.

Calls Disconnect Unexpectedly

Check:

  • NAT handling

  • SIP acknowledgement delivery

  • Firewall timeouts

  • Session timers

  • RTP connectivity

  • Network packet loss

Channel Is Enabled but Calls Fail

An enabled SIP channel can still have a registration, routing or account permission problem.

Check separately:

  1. SIP registration

  2. Incoming DID assignment

  3. Outgoing routing group

  4. Charging plan

  5. Number formatting

  6. Audio connectivity

Reviewing Call Reports

VoipNow includes call reporting features.

Open the relevant account or system reporting area.

Review the failed call and check:

  • Calling extension

  • Destination telephone number

  • Selected channel

  • Call result

  • Call duration

  • Recorded failure information

For more detailed signalling problems, review the SIP diagnostics for the VoipNow node handling the channel.

Look for REGISTER, INVITE, authentication responses and SIP error codes.

Final Tips

  • Keep the SIP server set to sip.voyced.eu.

  • Use your Voyced telephone number as the SIP username.

  • Use your Voyced service password for authentication.

  • Create a SIP Channel for the Voyced connection.

  • Keep Do not register unchecked.

  • Select Both for incoming and outgoing calls.

  • Use UDP port 5060 for SIP signalling.

  • Enable G.711 A-law and G.711 μ-law.

  • Set the simultaneous call limit according to your service.

  • Add each incoming number under Public Phone Numbers.

  • Assign the numbers to the correct accounts and extensions.

  • Create an outgoing routing group using the Voyced channel.

  • Confirm the relevant charging plan permits external calls.

  • Use full international numbers without a leading +.

  • Present an authorised outbound caller ID.

  • Test registration, incoming calls and outgoing calls separately.

4PSA VoipNow supports external SIP providers through its SIP Channel system.

Once registration, public telephone numbers, outgoing routing and account permissions are configured correctly, your VoipNow installation can use Voyced for normal inbound and outbound business telephone calls.
