SIP Trunk Setup for Alcatel-Lucent OXO Connect / OmniPCX Office
Use Voyced as an external SIP provider
This guide explains how to connect your Voyced telephone number and SIP trunk to an Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise OXO Connect or OmniPCX Office telephone system.
Both systems support third-party SIP providers using standard SIP registration and username/password authentication.
Once configured, your telephone system can make and receive business calls through Voyced.
This manual covers:
-
Alcatel-Lucent OXO Connect
-
Alcatel-Lucent OXO Connect Evolution
-
Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Office R9 and R10
The instructions use the OmniPCX Office Management Console (OMC).
Newer OXO Connect versions have a dedicated SIP configuration section. Older OmniPCX Office systems use the Automatic Routing Selection menus for several of the same settings.
Both methods are explained below.
What You'll Need
Before you begin, make sure you have:
-
Administrator or installer access to your Alcatel-Lucent PBX
-
The OMC software compatible with your PBX version
-
A working network connection with internet access
-
At least one configured extension and telephone
-
Available IP trunk licences
-
Sufficient VoIP resources for your required simultaneous calls
-
An active Voyced telephone number
Your Voyced SIP details:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| SIP Server | sip.voyced.eu |
| SIP Username | Your-Voyced-DID |
| SIP Password | YourServicePassword |
| SIP Destination Port | 5060 |
| SIP Transport | UDP |
| Authentication | Username and password |
Replace the example username and password with your actual Voyced service details.
Requirements Before You Begin
Your PBX must have a software release supporting public SIP trunks.
Check the following:
-
SIP trunk functionality is licensed and enabled.
-
Your PBX has enough available VoIP channels.
-
The PBX has a correct IP address, subnet mask and default gateway.
-
DNS resolution works.
-
UDP SIP signalling can reach the provider.
-
The network permits the required RTP audio traffic.
-
Existing telephone extensions are working.
Recommended audio codecs:
-
G.711 A-law / PCMA
-
G.711 μ-law / PCMU
Use full international telephone numbers without a leading + when sending calls to Voyced.
Example:
442012345678
The PBX may use a national or international access prefix when users dial. Its outgoing SIP configuration must convert this into the number format shown above.
Check Your Software Version
| System | Main SIP Configuration |
|---|---|
| OXO Connect | OMC → External Lines → SIP |
| OXO Connect Evolution | OMC → External Lines → SIP |
| OmniPCX Office R9/R10 | OMC → Numbering → Automatic Routing Selection |
The overall procedure is similar, but the SIP gateway and authentication screens are located differently.
SIP Trunk Setup Steps
1. Log in to OMC
-
Open your Alcatel-Lucent OMC application.
-
Connect to your telephone system.
-
Log in using an account with Expert access.
-
Read the current PBX configuration.
-
Save a backup before making changes.
If your OMC interface uses another language, select English under:
Options → Language
This makes the menu names easier to follow.
2. Check Available SIP Trunk Licences
Navigate to:
Hardware and Limits → Software Key Features
Open the Multi-site tab.
Locate:
IP Trunks
Check the number of channels shown as:
Really Activated
For example:
| Setting | Example |
|---|---|
| IP Trunks Really Activated | 4 |
| Voyced Channels Required | 2 |
The example system could support two Voyced channels, provided the other required resources are available.
Use the number of channels included in your Voyced service and supported by your PBX.
If no IP trunk licences are available, contact your Alcatel-Lucent installer or authorised partner to activate the necessary licences.
3. Configure Network and DNS
Navigate to:
Hardware and Limits → LAN IP Configuration
Check the network settings.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Main CPU IP Address | Your PBX IP address |
| Subnet Mask | Your network mask |
| Default Router Address | Your network gateway |
Example:
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| PBX IP Address | 192.168.1.50 |
| Subnet Mask | 255.255.255.0 |
| Default Router | 192.168.1.1 |
Use your actual network details.
The PBX must be able to resolve:
sip.voyced.eu
DNS is configured in the SIP gateway settings later in this guide.
If you change the PBX network settings, a warm restart may be required.
4. Check the Installation Numbering Plan
Navigate to:
Numbering → Installation Numbers
This section controls how your telephone system handles public telephone numbers.
Review:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Installation Number | Your assigned public number or number prefix |
| International Prefix | Your country's international access prefix |
| International Code | Your country code |
| Intercity Prefix | Your national access prefix, if applicable |
| Intercity Code | Your area code, if applicable |
| Recall Prefix | Your existing system setting |
Example for a UK installation:
| Setting | Example |
|---|---|
| International Prefix | 00 |
| International Code | 44 |
| Intercity Prefix | 0 |
| Intercity Code | 20 |
The remaining settings depend on your company's telephone numbers and PBX numbering plan.
Do not replace a working numbering plan with these example values.
The international prefix used by telephone users is separate from the number format sent to Voyced.
Save any required changes.
5. Configure Your Public Telephone Numbers
Navigate to:
Numbering → Numbering Plans
Open:
Public Numbering Plan
This section maps incoming public telephone numbers to internal extensions.
For example:
| Public Number | Internal Destination |
|---|---|
| Your Voyced DID | Reception |
| Additional Voyced DID | Sales |
| Additional Voyced DID | Support |
The PBX may use a public number prefix together with a shorter DDI range.
For example, if the installation number already contains the common part of your company's telephone numbers, the public numbering plan may only require the remaining digits.
Check your existing numbering plan before adding or changing entries.
Make sure every incoming Voyced number maps to the correct extension or group.
6. Create a New SIP Gateway
For OXO Connect and OXO Connect Evolution, navigate to:
External Lines → SIP → SIP Gateways
Click Create.
This opens:
Gateway Parameters Details
Enter:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Index | An available gateway index |
| Index Label | Voyced |
| SIP Numbers Format Index | An available number format index |
| End of Dialling Timeout | Keep the default initially |
| End of Dialling Table Used | Keep the existing setting initially |
For example:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Index | 1 |
| Index Label | Voyced |
| SIP Numbers Format Index | 1 |
The example index numbers must only be used if they are available.
If another provider already uses these indexes, select unused values.
The SIP Numbers Format Index must correspond to the number formatting configuration created later.
Older OmniPCX Office R9/R10
For older OmniPCX Office installations, navigate to:
Numbering → Automatic Routing Selection → Gateway Parameters
Select an available gateway index.
Enter the Voyced server, registration and authentication settings using the equivalent fields.
On OmniPCX Office R9.2 and later, SIP account credentials are configured separately under SIP Accounts.
The following steps explain the settings used by both interfaces.
7. Configure the SIP Server
For OXO Connect, open:
External Lines → SIP → SIP Gateways
Select your Voyced gateway.
Click Details.
Open the Domain Proxy tab.
Enter:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| IP Type | Dynamic |
| Hostname | sip.voyced.eu |
| Target Domain Name | sip.voyced.eu |
| Remote SIP Port | 5060 |
| Default Transport Mode | UDP |
| Outbound Proxy | sip.voyced.eu |
| Realm | Leave empty initially |
| Local Domain Name | Leave empty initially |
The main hostname is:
sip.voyced.eu
Use Dynamic IP Type so the PBX resolves the hostname through DNS.
Do not enter a fixed server IP address.
The Outbound Proxy uses the same hostname for this connection.
For older OmniPCX Office versions, enter these values in the equivalent ARS Gateway Parameters fields.
Click Apply or OK.
8. Configure DNS Resolution
For OXO Connect, open the Voyced gateway's DNS tab.
Enter:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| DNS Mode | DNS A |
| Primary DNS | Your DNS server |
| Secondary DNS | Your secondary DNS server, if available |
DNS A allows the PBX to resolve the configured hostname.
Use DNS servers available from your PBX network.
For example:
192.168.1.1
This is only an example local DNS server.
Do not enter it unless it is correct for your network.
Some provider profiles use DNS SRV records instead of DNS A.
For this configuration, use ordinary hostname resolution through DNS A unless your installation has confirmed SRV records to use.
On older OmniPCX Office systems, the DNS settings appear within ARS Gateway Parameters.
Save the settings.
9. Enable SIP Registration
For OXO Connect, open the Voyced gateway's Registration tab.
Enter:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Registration Requested | Yes |
| Registrar Name | sip.voyced.eu |
| Registrar IP Address | Leave empty |
| Registrar Port | 5060 |
| Registration Expiry | 300 seconds initially |
| Check Before Request | Leave at default |
| RFC 3327 | Disabled initially |
The Registrar Name identifies the server that handles account registration.
Use:
sip.voyced.eu
The registration expiry is negotiated with the SIP server.
Start with 300 seconds. If the server requires another interval, use the accepted value.
For older OmniPCX Office installations, enable registration in the relevant ARS Gateway Parameters.
Save the configuration.
10. Enter Your Voyced SIP Credentials
OXO Connect and OXO Connect Evolution
Navigate to:
External Lines → SIP → SIP Accounts
Add a new SIP account.
Enter:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Login | Your-Voyced-DID |
| Password | YourServicePassword |
| Registered Username | Your-Voyced-DID |
| Gateway Parameters Index | Your Voyced gateway index |
| RFC 6140 | Disabled |
For example:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Login | 442012345678 |
| Registered Username | 442012345678 |
| Gateway Parameters Index | 1 |
Use your actual Voyced account number and password.
The Gateway Parameters Index must match the SIP gateway you created earlier.
For one standard SIP trunk account, one SIP account entry is normally sufficient.
Older OmniPCX Office R9/R10
Navigate to:
Numbering → Automatic Routing Selection → SIP Accounts
Add the same account details.
The settings are:
-
Login
-
Password
-
Registered Username
-
Gateway Parameters Index
Save the account.
11. Configure SIP Public Numbering
The SIP Public Numbering settings determine how telephone numbers are presented to the provider.
This is particularly important for Voyced.
OXO Connect
Navigate to:
External Lines → SIP → SIP Public Numbering
Select the number format index assigned to your Voyced gateway.
Older OmniPCX Office
Navigate to:
Numbering → Automatic Routing Selection → SIP Public Numbering
Select the corresponding index.
Configure the outgoing number format.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Calling Format (Outgoing) | International |
| Calling Prefix (Outgoing) | Leave empty |
| Called Format (Outgoing) | International |
| Called Prefix (Outgoing) | Leave empty |
| Called Short Prefix (Outgoing) | Leave empty |
These settings should produce international numbers without adding +.
For example:
442012345678
Not:
+442012345678
Incoming Number Format
For incoming calls, the correct format depends on the numbering information received by the PBX.
For the initial configuration, use:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Calling Format (Incoming) | Canonical/International |
| Calling Prefix (Incoming) | Leave empty |
| Called Format (Incoming) | Canonical/International |
| Called Prefix (Incoming) | Leave empty |
Check incoming number matching during testing.
If the telephone number received by the PBX uses a different format, adjust the incoming settings to match the actual SIP request and your internal numbering plan.
Save the configuration.
12. Configure SIP Media and Audio
For OXO Connect, open:
External Lines → SIP → SIP Gateways
Select Voyced.
Click Details → Media.
Recommended settings:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Direct RTP | Disabled initially |
| Selected Codecs | G.711 A-law, G.711 μ-law |
| Preferred Framing | 20 ms |
| DTMF Mode | Out-of-Band (RFC 4733) |
| DTMF Payload | Negotiated, normally 101 |
Use G.711 A-law as the first codec preference.
Enable G.711 μ-law as the alternative where the gateway supports multiple selected codecs.
Disable Direct RTP for the initial configuration so audio remains routed through the PBX.
For older OmniPCX Office versions, the equivalent settings are available through:
Voice Over IP → VoIP Parameters
Save the configuration.
13. Configure SIP Security
For a standard UDP SIP connection, review the gateway's Security settings.
| Setting | Initial Configuration |
|---|---|
| SIP TLS | Disabled |
| SRTP | Disabled |
| SIP Transport | UDP |
These settings are appropriate for an initial connection using standard unencrypted SIP signalling and RTP.
Do not enable mandatory TLS or SRTP unless the connection has been configured to support them.
If your PBX already uses a secured network or provider-specific security arrangement, retain the settings required by that configuration.
14. Create the VoIP Trunk Access
For OXO Connect, navigate to:
External Lines → List of Accesses
Click:
Add VoIP
Create the Voyced trunk access.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Access Type | VoIP |
| Public Trunk | Yes |
| Number of Channels | According to your Voyced service |
| SIP Gateway | Voyced |
| Alternative CLIP/COLP | Leave empty initially |
Example:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Public Trunk | Yes |
| Number of Channels | 2 |
| Gateway Index | 1, Voyced |
Two channels are shown as an example.
Use the actual number supported by your licences and Voyced service.
The SIP gateway must be the gateway configured earlier.
Save the trunk access.
Older OmniPCX Office systems also use External Lines → List of Accesses for their VoIP trunk resources.
15. Assign the Trunk to a Trunk Group
Navigate to:
External Lines → List of Trunk Groups
Open the trunk group configuration.
You may add the Voyced trunk to:
-
Your existing main trunk group
-
A separate secondary trunk group
For example:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Trunk Group | 2 |
| Trunk Access | Voyced |
| Channels | Your available Voyced channels |
Trunk Group 2 is an example.
If your system already uses this group, select another available group.
A separate group is useful when you want some calls to use Voyced while retaining another telephone provider for different destinations.
Save the trunk group configuration.
16. Create the ARS Trunk Group Entry
The PBX uses Automatic Routing Selection, or ARS, to decide which trunk handles outgoing calls.
Navigate to:
Numbering → Automatic Routing Selection → Trunk Groups Lists
Right-click and select Add.
Create an entry for the Voyced trunk group.
Example:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| List ID | An available ARS list |
| Trunk Group | Your Voyced trunk group |
| Description | Voyced |
The Trunk Group must match the group configured in Step 15.
Save the entry.
17. Configure Outbound Call Routing
Navigate to:
Numbering → Automatic Routing Selection → Automatic Routing Prefixes
This section controls which destinations use the Voyced SIP trunk.
Right-click and select Add.
Create the required route.
The available fields include:
-
Prefix
-
Destination range
-
Trunk group list
-
Gateway index
-
Called-number conversion
-
Calling-number handling
Configure the route so calls to the intended destinations use the Voyced gateway and trunk group.
Example: International Calling
Suppose a user dials:
00442012345678
Here, 00 is the international access prefix.
The PBX must convert the number to:
442012345678
before sending the SIP INVITE to Voyced.
If your PBX also uses an internal outside-line access code, that code must be removed as part of the internal numbering and routing process.
For example:
900442012345678
may represent an internal access code 9 followed by the international dialling prefix 00 and destination number.
The final number sent to Voyced must still be:
442012345678
Do not simply remove digits without checking your current numbering plan.
The correct conversion depends on the access codes and international dialling rules already configured on your PBX.
Multiple Providers
If your system uses several telephone providers, configure the ARS table to select the appropriate trunk.
Example:
| Destination | Provider |
|---|---|
| Selected international calls | Voyced |
| Existing local routes | Existing provider |
| Emergency calls | Your approved emergency route |
Preserve the existing emergency and special-service routing.
Save the ARS configuration.
18. Configure Incoming Call Routing
Incoming calls must reach the correct extension or group.
For OXO Connect, review:
External Lines → Incoming Call Handling
You may route incoming calls using the public numbering plan and the selected incoming destination.
The exact arrangement depends on whether your PBX uses:
-
Direct inward dialling
-
Reception groups
-
Call distribution groups
-
Automated attendant services
Example: Reception Number
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Incoming Number | Your Voyced DID |
| Destination | Reception |
| Internal Extension | 100 |
Example: Several Numbers
| Incoming Telephone Number | Destination |
|---|---|
| Primary Voyced DID | Reception |
| Additional Voyced DID | Sales |
| Additional Voyced DID | Support |
Ensure the incoming number matches the public numbering plan configured in Step 5.
For older OmniPCX Office installations, the corresponding incoming call handling is configured through the public numbering plan and external line routing.
Save the changes.
19. Configure Outbound Caller ID
The telephone number presented to the called party must be authorised for your Voyced account.
For OXO Connect, review:
Numbering → Installation Numbers
Check the Alternative System CLIP if one is configured.
Also review the relevant subscriber settings.
Navigate to:
Subscribers / Base Stations List
Select the required subscriber.
Open Details and review their external number and calling permissions.
Use your authorised Voyced number.
Example:
Your-Voyced-DID
Where several telephone numbers are associated with your business, you may configure different authorised caller IDs for different extensions.
The SIP gateway's Identity settings determine how caller identity is presented in SIP messages.
For the initial connection, retain the default identity settings unless testing shows that a change is necessary.
20. Configure Calling Permissions
Open:
Traffic Sharing & Barring
Review the calling permissions for the extensions using Voyced.
Check that:
-
The required extensions are allowed to access the selected trunk group.
-
International calling is permitted where needed.
-
Outbound destination restrictions are appropriate.
-
Call forwarding permissions are configured as required.
An extension may be able to make internal calls while being restricted from external calls.
If outgoing calls fail despite successful SIP registration, check these permissions.
21. Configure Firewall and NAT
Your PBX must communicate with:
sip.voyced.eu
Recommended network settings:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| SIP Server | sip.voyced.eu |
| SIP Destination Port | UDP 5060 |
| SIP Registration | Enabled |
| SIP Transport | UDP |
| RTP Port Range | According to your PBX configuration |
| SIP ALG | Disabled if it causes problems |
If Your PBX Is Behind NAT
For OXO Connect, review the gateway's Topology tab.
The exact settings depend on how your PBX reaches the internet.
If your installation requires explicit public-address handling, configure the appropriate:
-
Public IP address
-
SIP signalling port
-
RTP port range
-
Internet-facing network interface
These values must match your real network.
For a system already using a working NAT configuration, retain the existing settings unless testing identifies a problem.
Your firewall must permit the required SIP signalling and RTP audio traffic.
22. Save and Apply the Configuration
After completing the settings:
-
Check the SIP gateway.
-
Confirm your Voyced credentials.
-
Confirm registration is enabled.
-
Review the number formatting.
-
Check the VoIP trunk access.
-
Confirm trunk group assignment.
-
Check incoming and outgoing routes.
-
Save the PBX configuration.
Some OMC changes take effect immediately.
Others may require a warm restart.
Restart the system only when necessary and at a time when active calls will not be disrupted.
Testing Your Setup
Registration Test
Open OMC.
Navigate to:
History and Anomalies → History Table
Look for a successful SIP registration event.
The expected event is similar to:
SIP registration success
If the registration fails, check the SIP gateway and account details.
Inbound Test
-
Call your Voyced telephone number from an external mobile telephone.
-
Confirm your PBX receives the call.
-
Check the correct public number matches.
-
Verify the intended extension or group rings.
-
Answer the call.
-
Check two-way audio.
If you have several Voyced numbers, test each number separately.
Outbound Test
-
Pick up a telephone connected to your PBX.
-
Dial an external telephone number using your normal outside-line access method.
-
Confirm the call routes through the Voyced trunk.
-
Verify the destination rings.
-
Check audio in both directions.
-
Confirm the correct caller ID appears.
Example number sent to Voyced:
442012345678
The final SIP destination must not contain an unnecessary access prefix or leading +.
