Panasonic KX-NS / KX-NSX

SIP Trunk Setup for Panasonic KX-NS / KX-NSX

Use Voyced as an external SIP provider

This guide explains how to connect your Voyced telephone number and SIP trunk to a Panasonic KX-NS or KX-NSX telephone system.

Once configured, your Panasonic PBX can make and receive telephone calls through Voyced using standard SIP registration.

This manual covers:

  • Panasonic KX-NS300, KX-NS500, KX-NS700 and KX-NS1000

  • Panasonic KX-NSX1000 and KX-NSX2000

The instructions use the Panasonic Web Maintenance Console and the V-SIPGW16 virtual SIP gateway.

Some menu locations and settings differ between models and firmware versions.

What You’ll Need

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Administrator or installer access to your Panasonic PBX

  • Access to the Panasonic Web Maintenance Console

  • A working network connection with internet access

  • At least one configured extension and telephone

  • An installed V-SIPGW16 virtual SIP gateway

  • The required Panasonic SIP trunk activation keys

  • Sufficient DSP resources for your simultaneous calls

  • An active Voyced telephone number

Your Voyced SIP details:

Setting Value
SIP Server sip.voyced.eu
SIP Username Your-Voyced-DID
SIP Password YourServicePassword
SIP Port 5060
Transport UDP
Authentication Username and password

Requirements Before You Begin

Your Panasonic system must support SIP trunk connections through its virtual SIP gateway.

Before configuring Voyced, check the following.

SIP Trunk Licences

Panasonic KX-NS systems require activation keys for SIP trunk channels.

To check your available licences:

  1. Open the Panasonic Web Maintenance Console.

  2. Navigate to PBX Configuration → 1. Configuration → 1. Slot.

  3. Open Activation Key Status.

  4. Find IP Trunk (ch).

  5. Confirm sufficient channels are available.

The number of channels determines how many simultaneous calls your PBX can handle through licensed IP trunks.

Your actual calling capacity also depends on your Voyced service.

DSP Resources

Your Panasonic PBX requires sufficient DSP capacity for VoIP calls.

Check that the installed DSP card or available system DSP resources support your planned number of simultaneous calls.

If the required activation keys or DSP resources are missing, contact your Panasonic installer or authorised dealer before continuing.

Network Requirements

  • Working DNS resolution

  • Internet access from the PBX

  • UDP SIP connectivity to port 5060

  • RTP connectivity for telephone audio

  • SIP ALG disabled on the router, where applicable

  • Correct network and NAT settings

Use international telephone numbers with the country code and no leading +.

Example:

442012345678

SIP Trunk Setup Steps

1. Log in to the Panasonic Maintenance Console

  1. Open your Panasonic Web Maintenance Console.

  2. Connect to your PBX.

  3. Log in using your administrator or installer credentials.

  4. Select PBX Configuration.

  5. Navigate to 1. Configuration → 1. Slot.

The Slot screen shows the available physical and virtual cards.

For the KX-NS series, select the virtual shelf.

On KX-NSX installations, the virtual gateway may appear in a different shelf layout.

2. Install the Virtual SIP Gateway

The Panasonic V-SIPGW16 provides up to 16 virtual SIP gateway ports, subject to available activation keys and system capacity.

If the card is already installed, continue to Step 3.

For a KX-NS700:

  1. Open 1. Configuration → 1. Slot.

  2. Select Virtual Shelf.

  3. Locate V-SIPGW16.

  4. Drag the card into an available virtual trunk slot.

  5. Confirm the installation.

For a KX-NS1000:

  1. Open 1. Configuration → 1. Slot.

  2. Select Virtual Shelf.

  3. Open the V-SIPGW16 section.

  4. Select the required number of virtual SIP gateway cards.

  5. Apply the configuration.

For KX-NSX systems, select the virtual SIP gateway in the applicable shelf configuration.

The exact card placement depends on the PBX model.

Do not add unnecessary gateway cards if your system already has sufficient available ports.

3. Place the Gateway Out of Service

Before editing the gateway settings:

  1. Locate the V-SIPGW16 card.

  2. Open its context menu or management options.

  3. Select OUS, meaning Out of Service.

  4. Confirm the change.

The gateway must be out of service before certain settings can be modified.

If the card already carries live telephone calls, schedule this change to avoid disrupting those calls.

4. Configure the SIP Gateway Shelf

Open:

V-SIPGW16 → Shelf Property

Select the Main tab.

Check the following settings:

Field Recommended Setting
SIP Client Port Number Keep the existing working value
NAT Traversal According to your network
NAT Keep Alive Packet Sending Ability Enable when required
NAT Keep Alive Packet Type Blank UDP
NAT Keep Alive Packet Sending Interval 20 seconds, if enabled

Panasonic systems often use local SIP client port 35060 by default.

This is the port used by the Panasonic gateway itself.

It is separate from Voyced's destination port 5060.

You do not normally need to change the local SIP client port simply because Voyced uses port 5060.

If another SIP service on the Panasonic system already uses a particular port, avoid configuring conflicting local ports.

If Your PBX Is Behind NAT

Where your network requires a fixed public address, configure:

Field Value
NAT Traversal Fixed IP Address
NAT Fixed Global IP Address Your actual public IP address

On KX-NSX systems, these settings may appear under a separate NAT Traversal tab.

If your network already handles NAT correctly, retain the working configuration.

Click Apply, then OK.

Changes to certain local SIP ports may require a PBX restart.

5. Configure the Voyced SIP Server

Open:

V-SIPGW16 → Port Property

Select the Main tab.

For the first Voyced SIP channel, enter:

Field Value
Channel Attribute Basic Channel
Provider Name Voyced
SIP Server Location - Name sip.voyced.eu
SIP Server IP Address Leave empty
SIP Server Port Number 5060
SIP Service Domain sip.voyced.eu
Subscriber Number Your-Voyced-DID, if required

Use the hostname:

sip.voyced.eu

The Basic Channel holds the main settings for the SIP connection.

Additional channels can use the same provider configuration.

If your Panasonic system requires a Subscriber Number, enter your full Voyced telephone number without a leading +.

Click Apply.

6. Enter Voyced Authentication Details

In Port Property, select the Account tab.

Enter:

Field Value
User Name Your-Voyced-DID
Authentication ID Your-Voyced-DID
Authentication Password YourServicePassword

Replace the placeholders with your actual Voyced service details.

The User Name and Authentication ID should contain the telephone number associated with your Voyced SIP account.

Do not add @sip.voyced.eu to these fields.

For example, use:

442012345678

rather than:

442012345678@sip.voyced.eu

Click Apply.

7. Enable SIP Registration

In Port Property, select the Register tab.

Configure:

Field Value
Register Ability Enable
Register Interval 3600 seconds initially
Registrar Server Name sip.voyced.eu
Registrar Server Port Number 5060
Un-Register Ability Enable

Some Panasonic firmware versions automatically use the SIP server from the Main tab when the Registrar Server Name is empty.

If your system does this, leave the Registrar Server Name empty.

The important requirement is that registration targets:

sip.voyced.eu

Start with a registration interval of 3600 seconds.

If the SIP server returns a different supported interval, follow the interval accepted during registration.

Click Apply.

8. Configure Additional SIP Channels

If your Panasonic system has more than one licensed SIP channel, configure additional ports.

In V-SIPGW16 → Port Property, locate the remaining ports.

For the first port, use:

Basic Channel

For the additional ports, select the matching:

Additional Channel for Basic Channel

The exact wording varies by firmware.

Additional channels share the settings of their associated Basic Channel.

For example:

Port Channel Attribute
1 Basic Channel
2 Additional Channel for Port 1
3 Additional Channel for Port 1
4 Additional Channel for Port 1

Only enable as many ports as your Panasonic licences, DSP resources and Voyced service support.

You do not need separate registration credentials for every channel attached to the same Basic Channel.

Save your configuration.

9. Configure Audio Codecs

In Port Property, open the Voice/FAX tab.

Find the IP Codec Priority settings.

For the initial configuration, select:

Setting Value
IP Codec Priority 1st G.711 A-law
IP Codec Priority 2nd G.711 μ-law
IP Codec Priority 3rd None

Depending on firmware, the codec names may appear as:

  • G.711A

  • G.711U

These correspond to PCMA and PCMU.

Keep the default packet time unless your installation requires another value.

Save the settings.

10. Configure Outbound Caller ID

In Port Property, open the Calling Party tab.

Locate:

From Header - User Part

Select:

PBX-CLIP

This allows the Panasonic PBX to use the configured extension caller ID when generating the SIP From header.

Click Apply.

Next, configure the caller ID for each extension.

For the KX-NS series:

  1. Navigate to 4. Extension.

  2. Select 1. Wired Extension.

  3. Open 1. Extension Settings.

  4. Select the CLIP tab.

  5. Find the required extension.

  6. Enter the authorised outgoing telephone number.

Example:

Field Value
Extension 101
CLIP ID Your-Voyced-DID

Use your actual Voyced telephone number.

If you have multiple telephone numbers authorised for outbound presentation, you can assign the appropriate number to each extension.

Click Apply, then OK.

11. Assign the SIP Channels to a Trunk Group

Panasonic uses trunk groups to manage external telephone lines.

To configure the Voyced channels:

  1. Open PBX Configuration.

  2. Navigate to 10. CO & Incoming Call.

  3. Open 1. CO Line Settings.

  4. Locate the V-SIPGW16 channels.

  5. Assign them to an available trunk group.

Example:

Setting Value
CO Name Voyced
Trunk Group Number 1
Channels Your enabled Voyced SIP ports

Trunk Group 1 is an example.

If your PBX already uses this group, choose another available group.

Keep the channels belonging to the same Voyced trunk in the appropriate group.

Click Apply.

12. Configure Outbound Call Routing

Panasonic systems use trunk access and Automatic Route Selection, also called ARS, to route outgoing calls.

The simplest arrangement is to direct the appropriate outgoing calls to the trunk group containing Voyced.

If your PBX already has working outbound routing, you can add the Voyced trunk group to the existing configuration.

To review ARS:

  1. Navigate to PBX Configuration.

  2. Open 8. ARS.

  3. Check the ARS mode.

  4. Open the leading-number and routing-plan settings.

  5. Select the Voyced trunk group for the required destinations.

The precise routing tables depend on your existing numbering plan.

Example: Dialling with Prefix 9

Many Panasonic systems use 9 as the outside-line access code.

For example, a user dials:

9442012345678

The PBX uses 9 to access an external trunk.

The number sent to Voyced must be:

442012345678

The outside-line access code must not be included in the SIP destination number.

On Panasonic systems, trunk access code handling and ARS number modification are separate functions.

Check that no ARS rule adds an unwanted national prefix, 00 or +.

If You Use Multiple Telephone Providers

You can configure ARS to direct different destination ranges to different trunk groups.

For example:

Destination Trunk Group
Selected international calls Voyced
Existing local routes Existing provider
Emergency calls Existing approved emergency route

Preserve your existing emergency and special-service routes.

Save your outbound routing settings.

13. Configure Incoming Call Distribution

Panasonic supports several methods for routing incoming calls.

For multiple telephone numbers, use the DID/DDI Table.

First, check the incoming distribution method.

Navigate to:

PBX Configuration → 10. CO & Incoming Call → 2. DIL Table & Port Settings

Locate the Voyced SIP channels.

Set the appropriate Distribution Method to:

DDI/DID

This tells the PBX to route incoming calls based on the telephone number being called.

If you only have one telephone number and want all calls to reach the same destination, you may use DIL routing instead.

For multiple DIDs, the DID/DDI method is normally more suitable.

Click Apply.

14. Create the Incoming DID Route

Navigate to:

PBX Configuration → 10. CO & Incoming Call → 3. DDI/DID Table

Add your Voyced telephone number.

Example:

Field Value
DDI/DID Number Your-Voyced-DID
DDI/DID Name Voyced Reception
DDI/DID Destination - Day 101
DDI/DID Destination - Lunch 101
DDI/DID Destination - Break 101
DDI/DID Destination - Night 101

Replace the placeholder with your actual Voyced telephone number.

For example:

442012345678

The DID/DDI Number must match the format received by your Panasonic PBX.

The destination can be an extension or a configured group.

If your system uses different day and night destinations, enter the relevant extension or group for each time period.

Click Apply, then OK.

15. Configure a Reception Group

If several users should answer the same Voyced number, you can route incoming calls to an Incoming Call Distribution Group.

To configure one:

  1. Navigate to PBX Configuration → 3. Group.

  2. Open Incoming Call Distribution Group.

  3. Create or select the appropriate group.

  4. Add the required extensions.

  5. Configure the ringing or distribution method.

  6. Save.

Example:

Field Value
Group Name Reception
Group Members 101, 102, 103
Distribution Ring or queue according to your settings

Return to the DDI/DID Table.

Change the destination for your Voyced number to the group's floating extension number.

Incoming calls will then follow the group's configuration.

16. Configure Additional Voyced Numbers

If several telephone numbers are delivered through the same Voyced SIP account, they can share the SIP registration and licensed channels.

To configure another number:

  1. Open the DDI/DID Table.

  2. Add the additional telephone number.

  3. Enter the relevant destination.

  4. Save.

Example:

Telephone Number Destination
Your primary Voyced DID Reception
Additional Voyced DID Sales
Additional Voyced DID Support

Each number must use the format delivered in the incoming SIP request.

A separate SIP registration is not normally needed for additional numbers delivered through the same SIP account.

If you have separate Voyced accounts with different login credentials, configure the necessary Basic Channels for each account.

17. Activate the SIP Gateway

After completing the SIP trunk settings:

  1. Return to PBX Configuration → 1. Configuration → 1. Slot.

  2. Locate the V-SIPGW16 card.

  3. Select INS, meaning In Service.

  4. Confirm the change.

  5. Click Apply where required.

Check that the relevant ports are enabled.

The INS indicator confirms the card or port is in service. It does not, by itself, prove that SIP registration has succeeded.

Check the port connection information and registration diagnostics before testing calls.

If you changed a setting requiring a system restart, save the PBX configuration first.

Restart the PBX only when required, as this will interrupt active calls.

18. Configure Firewall and NAT

For the standard connection:

Setting Value
Voyced SIP Server sip.voyced.eu
Destination SIP Port UDP 5060
Local SIP Port Your configured V-SIPGW16 client port
Transport UDP
SIP Registration Enabled
RTP Ports According to your Panasonic DSP configuration

The local SIP client port and Voyced's destination port are separate settings.

For example, your Panasonic SIP gateway may use local UDP port 35060 while communicating with Voyced on UDP port 5060.

The RTP ports depend on your Panasonic DSP configuration.

Check the relevant IP and DSP settings before changing firewall rules.

If Your PBX Is Behind NAT

Confirm:

  • The configured public IP address is correct.

  • SIP responses can reach the gateway.

  • RTP traffic can reach the required DSP addresses.

  • Your firewall permits the necessary traffic.

  • SIP ALG is disabled if it interferes with signalling or audio.

Apply only the network changes required for your installation.

Testing Your Setup

SIP Registration Test

  1. Open the Panasonic Maintenance Console.

  2. Navigate to the V-SIPGW16 gateway.

  3. Confirm the gateway and relevant ports are in service.

  4. Open the port connection information.

  5. Check the SIP registration result.

The required result is a successful registration with:

sip.voyced.eu

If your firmware does not display a clear registration status, inspect the SIP connection diagnostics.

A port marked INS alone is not sufficient to confirm successful authentication.

Inbound Test

  1. Call your Voyced telephone number from an external mobile telephone.

  2. Confirm the Panasonic PBX receives the call.

  3. Check the matching DID/DDI entry.

  4. Verify the configured extension or group rings.

  5. Answer the call.

  6. Check two-way audio.

If you have several Voyced numbers, test each number separately.

Outbound Test

  1. Pick up a telephone connected to the Panasonic PBX.

  2. Dial the outside-line access code, if your system requires one.

  3. Dial the destination in full international format.

  4. Confirm the call uses the Voyced SIP trunk.

  5. Check that the destination rings.

  6. Confirm two-way audio.

  7. Verify the correct caller ID appears.

Example dialled number, where 9 is the outside-line access code:

9442012345678

Expected number sent to Voyced:

442012345678

Troubleshooting

SIP Registration Fails

Check:

  • SIP Server Location is sip.voyced.eu

  • SIP Service Domain is sip.voyced.eu

  • User Name is your Voyced SIP username

  • Authentication ID is correct

  • Authentication Password is correct

  • Register Ability is enabled

  • SIP Server Port is 5060

  • DNS resolution works

  • The gateway is in service

Also check the registration expiry and registrar settings.

401 or 407 Error

These responses indicate a SIP authentication challenge.

An initial challenge is normal.

If registration continues to fail, check:

  • User Name

  • Authentication ID

  • Authentication Password

  • Authentication realm

  • Subsequent authenticated REGISTER requests

403 Error

Check:

  • SIP credentials

  • Account status

  • Outbound calling permissions

  • Caller ID authorisation

  • Any calling restrictions

404 Error

Check:

  • Destination telephone number

  • Outbound routing

  • ARS number modification

  • SIP Request-URI

  • DID matching

  • Which system returned the response

Confirm that the number sent to Voyced contains the country code without an unwanted prefix.

Incoming Calls Do Not Ring

Check:

  • SIP registration

  • V-SIPGW16 port status

  • Incoming distribution method

  • DDI/DID Table

  • DID number format

  • Day, Lunch, Break and Night destinations

  • Extension or group availability

If the call reaches the PBX but does not match a DID, inspect the incoming called number.

The number in the DID/DDI Table must match the value the PBX receives.

Outbound Calls Fail

Check:

  • SIP registration

  • Trunk group assignment

  • ARS configuration

  • Trunk access permissions

  • Dialling restrictions

  • Caller ID

  • Available calling credit

  • Simultaneous call capacity

Outbound Number Has the Wrong Format

Check the ARS settings.

The final number sent to Voyced must be in international format without a leading +.

Example:

442012345678

Make sure the PBX does not send the internal trunk access code.

Also check that it does not prepend 00 unless that is part of a separately agreed dialling arrangement.

One-Way Audio

Check:

  • RTP port configuration

  • DSP network settings

  • NAT configuration

  • Firewall rules

  • Public IP address

  • Codec negotiation

  • SIP ALG

SIP signalling and telephone audio use different network ports.

A successful SIP registration does not guarantee working RTP audio.

Gateway Is In Service but Calls Fail

Check both the registration status and the SIP response information.

The INS state indicates that the gateway is enabled.

It does not mean the provider has accepted the registration.

Also confirm that the correct trunk group and routing rules are configured.

Calls Disconnect Unexpectedly

Check:

  • NAT handling

  • SIP ACK delivery

  • Registration and session timers

  • Firewall timeouts

  • Audio connectivity

  • Network packet loss

Incoming Caller ID Is Missing

Check the calling-party and incoming-call settings.

Confirm the Panasonic PBX receives the caller's telephone number in the incoming SIP message.

Review any caller ID formatting rules that may remove or alter the number.

Outbound Caller ID Is Incorrect

Check:

  • From Header - User Part

  • Extension CLIP ID

  • Trunk caller ID settings

  • Authorised telephone numbers

Use an outbound number authorised for presentation on your Voyced account.

Final Tips

  • Keep the SIP server set to sip.voyced.eu.

  • Use your Voyced telephone number as the SIP username and authentication ID.

  • Use your Voyced service password for authentication.

  • Check that the required SIP trunk licences and DSP resources are available.

  • Use the V-SIPGW16 virtual SIP gateway.

  • Configure one Basic Channel for the main SIP account.

  • Use Additional Channels for extra licensed call capacity.

  • Enable SIP registration.

  • Use G.711 A-law and G.711 μ-law for audio compatibility.

  • Configure the correct trunk group for outbound calling.

  • Check ARS number formatting and trunk access rules.

  • Use full international telephone numbers without a leading +.

  • Configure the correct DDI/DID destination for each incoming number.

  • Test SIP registration, inbound calls and outbound calls separately.

Panasonic KX-NS and KX-NSX systems support external SIP providers through their virtual SIP gateways.

With the correct Panasonic licences, registration settings and call routing, your PBX can use Voyced for normal inbound and outbound business telephone calls.
