Vodia PBX

SIP Trunk Setup for Vodia PBX

Use Voyced as an external SIP provider

This guide explains how to connect your Voyced telephone number and SIP trunk to Vodia PBX, allowing your business to make and receive telephone calls through Voyced.

Vodia PBX supports external SIP providers using standard SIP registration with a username, password and SIP server.

This manual covers Vodia PBX 69 and 70, including the current administration interface. Differences for older installations are included where relevant.

What You’ll Need

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Administrator access to your Vodia PBX system

  • A working Vodia PBX installation

  • At least one configured extension and telephone

  • Permission to create or modify SIP trunks and dial plans

  • An active Voyced telephone number

  • Your Voyced SIP details:

    • Account / telephone number: Your-Voyced-DID

    • Service password: YourServicePassword

    • SIP server: sip.voyced.eu

Requirements Before You Begin

  • Your Voyced account must be active.

  • Your account must have sufficient calling credit and simultaneous call capacity.

  • Your Vodia PBX must have a working internet connection.

  • SIP signalling uses UDP port 5060.

  • Your firewall must permit the required SIP and RTP traffic.

  • Disable SIP ALG on your router or firewall.

  • Use full international telephone numbers without a leading + when sending calls to Voyced.

  • Recommended codecs:

    • PCMA / G.711 A-law

    • PCMU / G.711 μ-law

Vodia PBX supports multiple tenants and SIP trunks.

For a single business, create the Voyced trunk within the appropriate tenant.

For a hosted multi-tenant installation, assign the trunk to the tenant using the Voyced account.

SIP Trunk Setup Steps

1. Log in to Vodia PBX

  1. Open your Vodia PBX administration interface.

  2. Log in using your administrator credentials.

  3. Select the tenant or business account receiving the Voyced service.

  4. Navigate to Trunks → SIP Trunks.

  5. Click Add to create a new trunk.

On older Vodia installations, this menu may be called:

VoIP Providers

Both sections manage external SIP providers.

2. Create the Voyced SIP Trunk

In the new trunk window:

  1. Locate the Provider dropdown.

  2. Select Other.

  3. Choose Registration as the trunk type, where this option is shown.

  4. Enter the basic Voyced details.

Field Value
Provider Other
Name Voyced SIP Trunk
Type Registration
User Name (for SIP Registration) Your-Voyced-DID
Password YourServicePassword
Repeat Password YourServicePassword
DID / Telephone Number Your-Voyced-DID

The Other provider option allows you to configure a SIP provider without using a predefined template.

The registration type makes Vodia authenticate with Voyced using your account credentials.

Click Create.

Your new trunk will appear in the SIP Trunks list.

3. Configure General Trunk Settings

Open the newly created Voyced SIP Trunk.

Locate General Settings.

Enter:

Field Value
Name Voyced SIP Trunk
Type Registration
Direction Inbound and Outbound
State Enabled
Global No
Is Secure No

For a normal business installation, leave Global disabled.

The Global option is intended for multi-tenant environments where several tenants share the same trunk.

If your Vodia system hosts several businesses, create a separate Voyced trunk for each account unless you deliberately use a shared provider arrangement.

4. Configure SIP Registration

Scroll to the Registrations section.

Enter:

Field Value
Display Name Voyced
Account Your-Voyced-DID
Domain sip.voyced.eu
Username Your-Voyced-DID
Password YourServicePassword
Proxy Address sip.voyced.eu:5060

The Account identifies your Voyced telephone number in SIP messages.

The Username is used for SIP authentication.

For a standard Voyced account, both values are your full Voyced telephone number.

The Domain must be:

sip.voyced.eu

For the Proxy Address, enter:

sip.voyced.eu:5060

This directs SIP requests to the Voyced server using port 5060.

Keep the primary hostname rather than entering a numerical IP address.

5. Configure Registration Timing

Still under Registrations, locate the registration timing settings.

Vodia provides several options, including:

  • Proposed Duration

  • Send Re-registrations at This Percent of Expiry Time

  • Minimum Expiry Time

  • Keep-Alive Time

For the initial connection:

Field Value
Proposed Duration Leave at default
Re-registration Percentage Leave at default
Minimum Expiry Time Leave at default
Keep-Alive Time Leave at default initially

Vodia automatically manages registration renewal.

Voyced determines the accepted registration expiry in its SIP response.

If your PBX is behind NAT and registration becomes unreliable, adjust the Keep-Alive Time.

A value of 30 seconds is a reasonable starting point for networks where UDP connections expire quickly.

Avoid changing several registration settings simultaneously.

6. Configure SIP Transport

The standard Voyced SIP connection uses UDP.

For this setup:

Setting Value
SIP Server sip.voyced.eu
Destination Port 5060
Transport UDP
SIP Registration Enabled

Vodia normally uses the supported transport associated with the proxy address and SIP configuration.

If your version exposes an explicit transport option, select UDP.

Keep the remaining SIP transport settings at their defaults unless your installation requires an adjustment.

7. Configure Audio Codecs

Open the trunk's Media/Audio section.

Locate Codec Preference.

Enable the following codecs in this order:

  1. G.711 A-law / PCMA

  2. G.711 μ-law / PCMU

Recommended configuration:

Codec Setting
G.711 A-law Enabled
G.711 μ-law Enabled
G.729 Disabled unless required
G.722 Disabled for the trunk
Opus Disabled for the trunk

Vodia allows you to move codecs up or down in the preference list.

Place A-law first.

Additional Media Settings

Use:

Field Value
Trunk Requires Out-of-Band DTMF Tones Enabled
Strict RTP Routing No
Lock Codec During Call Leave at default
Number of Codecs in SDP Answer Leave at default

Out-of-band DTMF uses RFC2833-compatible signalling for keypad input.

This helps ensure IVR menus and other telephone systems recognise keypad presses.

Save your changes.

8. Configure Outbound Caller ID

Open Number/Call Identification in the Voyced trunk settings.

Locate Trunk ANI.

ANI stands for Automatic Number Identification, which determines the telephone number presented when placing outbound calls.

Enter:

Field Value
Trunk ANI Your-Voyced-DID
SIP Caller-ID Presentation No Indication
Prefix Leave empty

For the initial configuration, using No Indication presents the network caller ID through the SIP From header.

Use your Voyced telephone number as the caller ID.

You may later select RFC3325 / P-Asserted-Identity if your configuration requires separate network and displayed caller IDs.

Only use telephone numbers authorised for presentation on your Voyced account.

9. Configure Outbound Number Formatting

Voyced expects full international telephone numbers without a leading +.

For example:

442012345678

In your Voyced trunk settings, locate:

Number/Call Identification → Rewrite Global Numbers

Select:

Field Value
Rewrite Global Numbers E.164 (without leading +)

This setting is particularly important.

Vodia supports several telephone number formats, including:

  • National format

  • International format with 00

  • E.164 with a leading +

  • E.164 without a leading +

For Voyced, select:

E.164 (without leading +)

Example:

Vodia may internally recognise a number as:

+442012345678

The trunk must send:

442012345678

to Voyced.

Do not select Use + Symbol at Beginning.

Save the trunk configuration.

10. Create an Outbound Dial Plan

Vodia uses dial plans to determine which SIP trunk handles outbound calls.

Navigate to:

Trunks → Dial Plans

Click Add.

Enter:

Field Value
Name Voyced Outbound
Global No
Number Presentation in Dial Plan E.164 / international format

Save the dial plan.

Open the newly created dial plan.

Add the following rule:

Field Value
Preference 100
Trunk Voyced SIP Trunk
Pattern *
Replacement *
Status Enabled

The * pattern matches external telephone numbers.

The * replacement preserves the matched number.

The trunk's Rewrite Global Numbers setting then ensures the number is sent in international format without a leading +.

This is a simple starting configuration.

If your business needs destination restrictions, create more specific patterns rather than routing every external number.

Keep existing emergency and special-service routing rules where required.

Save the dial plan.

11. Assign the Outbound Dial Plan

The new dial plan must be assigned to the extensions that will place calls through Voyced.

Option 1: Default Dial Plan

For all users in the tenant:

  1. Open the tenant's Settings → General Settings.

  2. Locate Default Dial Plan.

  3. Select Voyced Outbound.

  4. Save the changes.

This makes Voyced the default outbound provider for extensions using the tenant's default dial plan.

Option 2: Individual Extensions

For selected users:

  1. Navigate to Accounts → Extensions.

  2. Open the required extension.

  3. Locate Dial Plan under the extension's general settings.

  4. Select Voyced Outbound.

  5. Save the extension.

Repeat for other extensions that should use Voyced.

12. Configure Your Voyced Telephone Number

Vodia uses Number Management to assign telephone numbers to users and other destinations.

For Vodia PBX 69 and 70:

  1. Open the system administration interface.

  2. Navigate to Tenants → Number Management.

  3. Click Add.

Enter:

Field Value
Number Your-Voyced-DID
Name Voyced Incoming
Trunk Voyced SIP Trunk
Mapped to Tenant Your business tenant
Account Your receiving extension
Use It as Outbound-DID On

Replace the placeholder with your actual Voyced telephone number.

Example:

442012345678

Select the extension or destination that should receive incoming calls.

For example:

Field Value
Number 442012345678
Account Reception, extension 100

Click Save.

On older Vodia installations, this function may appear under DID Management.

13. Configure Inbound Call Routing

Open your Voyced SIP trunk.

Locate:

Routing/Redirection → Destination for Incoming Calls

Vodia provides several routing methods.

For the initial setup, select:

Field Value
Destination for Incoming Calls Default

The Default routing method checks the called telephone number against the configured numbers.

When the number matches an assigned account, Vodia routes the call to that destination.

For example:

Voyced Telephone Number
        |
        v
Vodia SIP Trunk
        |
        v
Extension 100

Save the changes.

Alternative: Send All Calls to One Destination

If every incoming call should reach the same destination, select:

Send All Calls to a Specific Account

Then choose:

  • Extension

  • Ring Group

  • Auto Attendant

  • Call Queue

Example:

Field Value
Destination for Incoming Calls Send all calls to a specific account
Account Reception

This method is useful when you have one Voyced telephone number and want all incoming calls to reach reception.

For multiple numbers with different destinations, use the Default routing method and configure each number in Number Management.

14. Configure Additional Inbound Numbers

If you have several Voyced telephone numbers, assign each number to its required destination.

Navigate to:

Tenants → Number Management

Click Add for each additional number.

Example:

Telephone Number Destination
Your-Voyced-DID Reception
Additional Voyced DID Sales Ring Group
Additional Voyced DID Support Queue

Use the complete international number for every DID.

Each number must be associated with the correct trunk and tenant.

You do not need a separate SIP registration for every DID when the additional numbers are delivered through the same Voyced SIP account.

15. Verify SIP Registration

After saving the trunk configuration:

  1. Navigate to Trunks → SIP Trunks.

  2. Locate Voyced SIP Trunk.

  3. Check the registration status.

The trunk list displays registration information, including the current status and remaining registration time.

Expected result:

Registered

If the trunk does not register, open its settings and check:

  • Account

  • Username

  • Password

  • Domain

  • Proxy Address

Vodia also supports manually triggering a new registration from the trunk list.

Use this option after correcting registration settings.

Successful registration confirms the SIP account has authenticated with Voyced.

Inbound and outbound call routing must still be tested.

16. Configure Firewall and NAT

Your Vodia PBX must communicate with:

sip.voyced.eu

Recommended network settings:

Setting Value
SIP Server sip.voyced.eu
SIP Destination Port UDP 5060
SIP Registration Enabled
SIP ALG Disabled
RTP Ports According to your Vodia configuration

Vodia commonly uses a high UDP port range for RTP audio.

The traditional default is UDP 49152–65535, although installations may use another configured range.

Check the actual RTP settings on your server.

If Vodia Is Behind NAT

  1. Open the system administration interface.

  2. Navigate to Settings → SIP → Settings.

  3. Locate the IP Routing List.

  4. Confirm the PBX uses the correct public IP address for external SIP connections.

  5. Save any changes.

Vodia normally detects its public IP automatically.

Only override the address if automatic detection is incorrect.

Confirm your firewall permits the required SIP signalling and RTP audio traffic.

Testing Your Setup

Registration Test

  1. Open the Vodia administration interface.

  2. Navigate to Trunks → SIP Trunks.

  3. Select Voyced SIP Trunk.

  4. Confirm the registration status.

Expected result:

Registered

Inbound Test

  1. Call your Voyced telephone number from an external mobile telephone.

  2. Confirm Vodia receives the call.

  3. Check the correct telephone number matches.

  4. Verify the configured extension, ring group or IVR receives the call.

  5. Answer the call.

  6. Check audio in both directions.

For multiple Voyced numbers, test each DID individually.

Outbound Test

  1. Pick up a telephone registered to Vodia PBX.

  2. Dial an external telephone number in full international format.

  3. Confirm the call uses the Voyced trunk.

  4. Verify the destination telephone rings.

  5. Check two-way audio.

  6. Confirm the correct caller ID appears.

Example:

442012345678

The telephone number sent to Voyced should contain the country code without a leading +.

Troubleshooting

SIP Registration Fails

Check:

  • SIP server is sip.voyced.eu

  • Account is Your-Voyced-DID

  • Username is Your-Voyced-DID

  • Password is YourServicePassword

  • Trunk Type is Registration

  • Trunk State is Enabled

  • SIP port is 5060

  • DNS resolution works

Review the registration status and SIP response.

401 or 407 Error

These responses indicate SIP authentication is required.

An initial authentication challenge is normal.

If registration repeatedly fails, check:

  • Username

  • Password

  • Authentication realm

  • SIP registration details

  • Subsequent authenticated SIP requests

403 Error

Check:

  • Voyced account status

  • SIP authentication

  • Outbound calling permissions

  • Caller ID authorisation

  • Account restrictions

404 Error

Check:

  • Destination telephone number

  • International number format

  • Outbound dial plan

  • SIP Request-URI

  • Incoming DID matching

  • Which system returned the error

For example, an incorrect outgoing number containing a leading + may be rejected.

Confirm Rewrite Global Numbers is set to:

E.164 (without leading +)

Incoming Calls Do Not Ring

Check:

  • SIP registration status

  • Incoming SIP trunk identification

  • Assigned DID

  • Tenant assignment

  • Destination for Incoming Calls

  • Receiving extension or group

If Vodia receives the SIP INVITE but does not recognise the correct telephone number, inspect the Request-URI and To header.

For the Default routing method, Vodia normally checks these headers to locate the destination.

Incoming Calls Reach the Wrong Destination

Check:

  • Number Management

  • Account assignment

  • Tenant mapping

  • Default Auto Attendant

  • Trunk routing method

For multiple DIDs, avoid using Send All Calls to a Specific Account unless every call should reach the same destination.

Outbound Calls Fail

Check:

  • SIP registration

  • Dial plan configuration

  • Dial plan assignment

  • Trunk selection

  • Number format

  • Caller ID

  • Available calling credit

  • Simultaneous call capacity

A common issue is creating the outbound dial plan without assigning it to the tenant or extension.

Outbound Numbers Have the Wrong Format

Open:

Trunks → SIP Trunks → Voyced SIP Trunk

Locate:

Number/Call Identification → Rewrite Global Numbers

Select:

E.164 (without leading +)

Also check the dial plan's Number Presentation in Dial Plan setting.

Make sure the dial plan does not replace the international country code with a local or national prefix.

One-Way Audio

Check:

  • RTP port configuration

  • Firewall settings

  • NAT configuration

  • Public IP address

  • SDP media addresses

  • Audio codec negotiation

  • SIP ALG

If the PBX is behind NAT, confirm the external media address is correct.

Calls Disconnect After Approximately 30 Seconds

Check:

  • SIP ALG

  • NAT handling

  • SIP ACK delivery

  • Firewall timeouts

  • SIP signalling addresses

Trunk Shows Unreachable

Check:

  • Internet connectivity

  • SIP server hostname

  • DNS resolution

  • UDP port 5060

  • Registration status

  • Firewall settings

The registration status and successful call handling are separate checks.

Reviewing SIP Logs

Vodia includes built-in SIP logging.

To inspect the connection:

  1. Open the administration interface.

  2. Navigate to Status → Logfile.

  3. Open the logging configuration.

  4. Enable Log REGISTER for registration problems.

  5. Enable Log Call Messages for incoming or outgoing call problems.

  6. Use log level 7 or higher for SIP message details.

  7. Repeat the failed operation.

  8. Review the SIP response and request information.

For registration problems, look for REGISTER requests and their responses.

For call problems, inspect:

  • INVITE

  • Request-URI

  • From

  • To

  • SIP response code

  • SDP media information

Disable detailed logging after troubleshooting.

Final Tips

  • Always use your Voyced SIP account credentials.

  • Keep the SIP server set to sip.voyced.eu.

  • Use Your-Voyced-DID as the SIP account and authentication username.

  • Use YourServicePassword as the SIP password.

  • Select Registration as the trunk type.

  • Enable inbound and outbound calling.

  • Use G.711 A-law and μ-law for audio compatibility.

  • Set Rewrite Global Numbers to E.164 (without leading +).

  • Assign the Voyced trunk to the correct outbound dial plan.

  • Configure every incoming telephone number in Number Management.

  • Assign each number to the correct extension, ring group or IVR.

  • Confirm firewall and NAT settings match your network.

  • Test SIP registration, inbound and outbound calling separately.

Vodia PBX supports external SIP providers using standard registration and authentication, making it suitable for connecting to Voyced.

Once registration, telephone number assignments and call routing are configured correctly, your business will be able to make and receive telephone calls using Voyced.
