Bicom PBXware

SIP Trunk Setup for Bicom PBXware

Use Voyced as an external SIP provider

This guide explains how to connect your Voyced telephone number and SIP trunk to Bicom PBXware, allowing your business to make and receive telephone calls through Voyced.

PBXware supports external SIP providers using standard SIP registration with a username, password and SIP server.

This manual covers PBXware Business, Multi-Tenant and Call Centre editions, including PBXware 7 and 8. Differences between editions are explained where relevant.

What You’ll Need

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Administrator access to your PBXware system

  • A working PBXware installation

  • At least one configured extension and telephone

  • Permission to create or modify SIP trunks

  • An active Voyced telephone number

  • Your Voyced SIP details:

    • Account / telephone number: Your-Voyced-DID

    • Service password: YourServicePassword

    • SIP server: sip.voyced.eu

Requirements Before You Begin

  • Your Voyced account must be active.

  • Your account must have sufficient calling credit and simultaneous call capacity.

  • Your PBXware server must have a working internet connection.

  • SIP signalling uses UDP port 5060.

  • Your firewall must permit the required SIP and RTP traffic.

  • Disable SIP ALG on your router or firewall.

  • Use full international telephone numbers without a leading + when sending calls to Voyced.

  • Recommended codecs:

    • PCMA / G.711 A-law

    • PCMU / G.711 μ-law

PBXware uses PJSIP for its current SIP trunk connections.

Older PBXware versions use similar configuration fields, although the layout and available options differ.

SIP Trunk Setup Steps

1. Log in to PBXware

  1. Open your PBXware administration interface.

  2. Log in using your administrator credentials.

  3. Navigate to Home → Trunks.

  4. Click Add a Trunk.

If you use PBXware Multi-Tenant, first switch to the Master Tenant.

Trunks are created at system level and assigned to individual tenants afterwards.

2. Select the SIP Provider

In the new trunk wizard:

  1. Locate the Provider selection.

  2. Select Generic SIP.

  3. Click Next Step.

PBXware supports custom SIP providers even when their names do not appear in the provider list.

For your first Voyced connection, use the Generic SIP provider.

You may create a reusable Voyced provider template later under Settings → Providers.

3. Create the Voyced SIP Trunk

Enter the basic trunk details.

Field Value
Provider Generic SIP
Name or Number Your-Voyced-DID
Country Your country
User Type Friend
Status Active

Replace Your-Voyced-DID with your actual Voyced telephone number.

For example:

442012345678

The Friend trunk type supports both incoming and outgoing calls.

PBXware also offers:

  • Peer: Outgoing calls only

  • User: Incoming calls only

  • Friend: Incoming and outgoing calls

For a Voyced trunk handling both call directions, select Friend.

4. Configure the SIP Server

Open the trunk's Authentication section.

Enter:

Field Value
Host sip.voyced.eu
Username Your-Voyced-DID
Secret YourServicePassword
Authname Your-Voyced-DID
From User Your-Voyced-DID
From Domain sip.voyced.eu

Some PBXware versions display Peer Host, Peer Username and Peer Secret instead of the corresponding Host, Username and Secret fields when the trunk type is Peer.

If you are using the recommended Friend type, use the Host, Username and Secret fields.

The SIP server must be:

sip.voyced.eu

Keep this hostname rather than entering a numerical IP address.

Voyced uses this hostname to direct connections to the appropriate server.

5. Enable SIP Registration

Click Show Advanced Options.

Locate Authentication → Register.

Configure:

Field Value
Register With Username
Register Suffix Your-Voyced-DID
Register Expiration Time 3600 seconds
Register Max Retries 60
From User Your-Voyced-DID
From Domain sip.voyced.eu

The registration method determines how PBXware identifies your account when connecting to Voyced.

Select With Username for the standard Voyced connection.

The Register Suffix identifies the contact username for incoming calls. Enter your actual telephone number, using digits only.

If your installed version automatically generates the correct contact username, leave the suffix empty rather than adding a duplicate.

PBXware also supports other registration methods, including:

  • With Phone Number

  • With Authname

  • With Authname@Host

  • With Authname@Trunk-Name

For the normal Voyced configuration, use With Username first.

If registration fails, inspect the registration request before selecting another method.

Save the configuration.

6. Configure SIP Transport and Media

Under Advanced Options, locate the network and media settings.

Enter:

Field Value
Transport UDP
DTMF Mode RFC2833
Direct Media No
Qualify Default
Outbound Proxy Leave empty

PBXware uses RFC2833 for DTMF signalling, including telephone keypad input for IVR menus.

With Direct Media disabled, audio remains routed through PBXware rather than connecting the two telephone endpoints directly.

Keep the default Qualify setting unless the connection requires adjustment.

7. Configure Audio Codecs

Locate the Codecs section.

Enable:

  1. ITU G.711 alaw

  2. ITU G.711 ulaw

Set A-law as the first preference.

Disable unused codecs if your PBXware version allows individual codec selection.

Recommended configuration:

Codec Setting
G.711 A-law Enabled
G.711 μ-law Enabled
G.729 Disabled unless specifically required
G.722 Disabled for the trunk
Opus Disabled for the trunk

These settings provide standard G.711 audio compatibility.

8. Configure Simultaneous Calls

Under Advanced Options → Channels, configure:

Field Value
Incoming Limit According to your Voyced subscription
Outgoing Limit According to your Voyced subscription
Ringtime 60 seconds

For example, if your service permits two simultaneous incoming and two simultaneous outgoing calls:

Field Example
Incoming Limit 2
Outgoing Limit 2

These are sample limits only.

Use the actual simultaneous calling capacity of your Voyced service.

PBXware applies the configured limits when handling calls through the trunk.

9. Configure Outbound Number Formatting

Voyced expects full international telephone numbers without a leading +.

For example:

442012345678

In your Voyced trunk settings, locate Advanced Options → Locality.

Configure:

Field Value
Pass-thru Mode Yes
Prefix Leave empty
Local Area Code Leave at default
Leave National Code Leave at default

Pass-thru Mode is particularly useful for Voyced.

When enabled, PBXware sends the dialled number without adding or removing national or international prefixes.

For example:

A user dials:

442012345678

PBXware sends:

442012345678

to Voyced.

If Pass-thru Mode is disabled, PBXware may convert numbers according to its country and locality settings.

For this setup, enable Pass-thru Mode and ensure users dial the complete international number.

10. Configure Outbound Caller ID

Open Advanced Options → Caller ID.

Enter:

Field Value
Outbound Caller ID Your-Voyced-DID
Allow ES Caller ID No, unless needed

The Outbound Caller ID identifies the telephone number presented when making external calls.

Use your Voyced number or another telephone number authorised for presentation on your account.

If you need different caller IDs for individual extensions, PBXware supports this through Enhanced Services.

Enable Allow ES Caller ID only when you want extension-level caller ID settings to override the default trunk number.

Save the trunk configuration.

11. Activate and Verify the Trunk

After saving:

  1. Return to Home → Trunks.

  2. Locate your Voyced trunk.

  3. Confirm its status is Active.

  4. Open Monitor to review the trunk status.

For a detailed registration check, open the PBXware administration console's Asterisk CLI.

Enter:

pjsip show registrations

Look for your Voyced registration.

The expected result is:

Registered

If the trunk appears as Not Registered, review the username, password, server address and registration method.

The trunk being marked Active in PBXware means the trunk is enabled. Registration status must be checked separately.

12. Assign the Trunk for Outbound Calls

PBXware uses trunk priorities to determine which provider handles outgoing calls.

PBXware Business and Call Centre

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Locate Default Trunks.

  3. Select the Voyced trunk as Primary Trunk.

  4. Save the configuration.

If you already use another provider, retain your existing routing arrangement and assign Voyced only to the required destinations.

PBXware Multi-Tenant

  1. Switch to Master Tenant.

  2. Navigate to Home → Trunks → Trunks & Tenants.

  3. Locate the tenant requiring Voyced service.

  4. Click Edit.

  5. Under Allowed Trunks, select the Voyced trunk.

  6. Under Default Trunks, select Voyced as the Primary Trunk if appropriate.

  7. Save the settings.

Only assigned trunks are available to the selected tenant.

For multiple providers, you may set Primary, Secondary and Tertiary trunks.

13. Configure Outbound Dialling Rules

PBXware supports outbound routing based on destinations and number ranges.

For standard international calling, make sure:

  1. The Voyced trunk is available to the extension or tenant.

  2. The appropriate destination is permitted.

  3. The complete international number reaches Voyced.

  4. No unwanted prefixes are added.

Example destination:

442012345678

If you need specific destinations to use Voyced:

  1. Navigate to Home → LCR.

  2. Locate the destination group.

  3. Edit its routing.

  4. Select Voyced as the Primary Trunk for the required destination.

  5. Save.

LCR stands for Least Cost Routing.

This feature allows specific destination groups to use selected trunks.

Use LCR only when you need routing rules beyond your default trunk settings.

14. Configure an Inbound DID

To receive incoming calls through Voyced:

  1. Navigate to Home → DIDs.

  2. Click Add DID.

  3. Enter the following:

Field Value
DID/Channel (start) Your-Voyced-DID
Name Voyced Incoming
Trunk Your Voyced trunk
Status Active

Replace the placeholder with your actual telephone number.

For example:

442012345678

The DID must match the called number presented to PBXware.

PBXware Multi-Tenant

Create the DID under:

Master Tenant → Home → DIDs

Select the tenant receiving the telephone number.

Depending on the tenant's DID management mode, you may need to assign the DID to a DID Group first.

The Trunk selection associates the DID with its provider. On Multi-Tenant systems, the actual incoming call identification and DID match still determine the route used.

15. Assign the Inbound Destination

After creating the DID, select the destination.

PBXware supports:

  • Extensions

  • Ring groups

  • IVR menus

  • Call queues

  • Voicemail

  • Other configured destinations

Example:

Field Value
DID Your-Voyced-DID
Destination Extension
Value 100

This routes incoming calls to extension 100.

For a reception group:

Field Value
DID Your-Voyced-DID
Destination Ring Group
Value Your reception group

On Multi-Tenant installations, open the assigned tenant's DID settings to configure its final destination.

Save the DID.

16. Configure Firewall and NAT

Your PBXware server must communicate with:

sip.voyced.eu

Recommended network settings:

Setting Value
SIP Server sip.voyced.eu
SIP Port UDP 5060
Registration Enabled
SIP ALG Disabled
RTP Ports According to your PBXware configuration

Ensure your firewall permits the required SIP signalling and RTP audio traffic.

If PBXware runs behind NAT, confirm its SIP and media settings use the correct public address.

Check the RTP port range configured on your PBXware installation.

A successful SIP registration does not guarantee working audio, so test both directions after completing the setup.

Testing Your Setup

Registration Test

  1. Open your PBXware administration interface.

  2. Locate the Voyced trunk.

  3. Confirm the trunk is active.

  4. Check its registration status.

Using Asterisk CLI:

pjsip show registrations

Expected result:

Registered

Inbound Test

  1. Call your Voyced telephone number from an external mobile telephone.

  2. Confirm PBXware receives the call.

  3. Check the correct DID is selected.

  4. Verify the configured extension, group or IVR receives the call.

  5. Answer the call.

  6. Check two-way audio.

Outbound Test

  1. Pick up a telephone registered to PBXware.

  2. Dial an external telephone number in full international format.

  3. Confirm the call uses the Voyced trunk.

  4. Verify the destination telephone rings.

  5. Check two-way audio.

  6. Confirm the correct caller ID appears.

Example:

442012345678

Troubleshooting

SIP Registration Fails

Check:

  • SIP server is sip.voyced.eu

  • Username is Your-Voyced-DID

  • Password is YourServicePassword

  • Register is set to With Username

  • Transport is UDP

  • Port is 5060

  • The trunk is Active

Review the Asterisk registration status for more information.

401 or 407 Error

These responses indicate an authentication challenge.

An initial challenge is normal.

If registration repeatedly fails, check:

  • Username

  • Password

  • Authentication name

  • Registration method

  • Authentication realm

403 Error

Check:

  • Voyced account status

  • Authentication details

  • Outbound calling permissions

  • Caller ID authorisation

  • Account restrictions

404 Error

Check:

  • Destination number

  • International number format

  • SIP Request-URI

  • Outbound routing

  • DID matching

  • Which server returned the response

For example, a number sent with an unwanted national prefix may fail.

Confirm Pass-thru Mode is enabled and the correct international number is transmitted.

Incoming Calls Do Not Ring

Check:

  • SIP registration status

  • Trunk User Type

  • Incoming SIP identification

  • DID number

  • Assigned tenant

  • Inbound destination

  • Destination availability

For a trunk handling incoming and outgoing calls, User Type should be Friend.

If incoming calls reach PBXware but do not match the expected DID, inspect the received telephone number.

Outbound Calls Fail

Check:

  • Trunk status

  • SIP registration

  • Primary trunk assignment

  • Tenant trunk permissions

  • LCR settings

  • Number format

  • Caller ID

  • Account credit

  • Simultaneous call limits

One-Way Audio

Check:

  • RTP port configuration

  • Firewall rules

  • NAT settings

  • Public IP address

  • SDP media information

  • Codec negotiation

  • SIP ALG

Trunk Shows Offline

  1. Open Monitor.

  2. Confirm the trunk is Active.

  3. Check its registration status.

  4. Review the Asterisk logs.

For more detailed diagnostics, use the PBXware Asterisk CLI.

Run:

pjsip show registrations

If registration fails, inspect the SIP response.

PBXware installations may also provide the sngrep diagnostic tool for reviewing SIP signalling.

Inbound Calls Work but Outbound Calls Fail

Check:

  • Primary trunk selection

  • Allowed trunks for the tenant

  • LCR destination routing

  • Caller ID

  • Pass-thru Mode

  • Outbound calling permissions

Registration Works but Incoming Calls Fail

Confirm PBXware recognises incoming SIP requests as belonging to the Voyced trunk.

If the incoming request is not recognised, review its source address and SIP authentication settings.

If the trunk is recognised but the call fails, inspect the DID number and destination.

Final Tips

  • Always use your Voyced SIP account details.

  • Keep the SIP server set to sip.voyced.eu.

  • Use Your-Voyced-DID as the SIP username.

  • Use YourServicePassword as the SIP password.

  • Use the Friend trunk type for inbound and outbound calls.

  • Enable SIP registration using the username.

  • Use PCMA and PCMU for audio compatibility.

  • Enable Pass-thru Mode for international number handling.

  • Use full international numbers without a leading +.

  • Assign the Voyced trunk as the appropriate outbound provider.

  • Configure a DID for each incoming telephone number.

  • On Multi-Tenant systems, assign the trunk and DID to the correct tenant.

  • Test registration, inbound and outbound calling separately.

Bicom PBXware supports external SIP trunks using standard registration and authentication, making it suitable for connecting to Voyced.

Once the trunk, telephone number assignments and call routing are configured correctly, your business will be able to make and receive telephone calls using Voyced.
