SIP Trunk Setup for UniFi Talk
Use Voyced as an external SIP provider
This guide explains how to connect your Voyced telephone number and SIP trunk to UniFi Talk using your existing Voyced account.
UniFi Talk supports third-party SIP providers, allowing you to make and receive calls through Voyced without purchasing a UniFi Talk telephone subscription.
The setup uses standard SIP registration with your Voyced username, service password and SIP server.
This manual covers UniFi Talk 5.4 and later, including configuration differences for older versions.
What You’ll Need
Before you begin, make sure you have:
-
Admin access to your UniFi Console
-
The UniFi Talk application installed and running
-
One or more unlocked UniFi Talk telephones
-
At least one user configured in UniFi Talk
-
An active Voyced telephone number
-
Your Voyced SIP details:
-
Account / telephone number:
Your-Voyced-DID -
Service password:
YourServicePassword -
SIP server:
sip.voyced.eu
-
Requirements Before You Begin
-
Your Voyced account must be active.
-
Your account must have sufficient calling credit and simultaneous call capacity.
-
Your UniFi Console must support the UniFi Talk application.
-
Your UniFi Talk telephones must be subscription-unlocked.
-
Your console must have a working internet connection.
-
SIP registration uses UDP port
5060. -
Your network must allow SIP and RTP traffic.
-
Disable SIP ALG on any upstream router or firewall.
-
Use full international telephone numbers without a leading
+when sending calls to Voyced. -
Recommended audio codecs:
-
PCMA / G.711 A-law
-
PCMU / G.711 μ-law
-
UniFi Talk normally handles firewall traversal automatically when using a registration-based SIP provider.
Voyced does not normally require IP whitelisting.
Keep sip.voyced.eu as the primary SIP server because Voyced uses this hostname for geographic routing and fallback.
SIP Trunk Setup Steps
1. Log in to UniFi Talk
-
Open https://unifi.ui.com
-
Log in using your UniFi account.
-
Select your UniFi Console.
-
Open the Talk application.
-
Navigate to Settings.
-
Select System Settings.
Before continuing, confirm that the application and connected telephones are working normally.
For the latest third-party SIP features, use UniFi Talk 5.4.5 or later.
2. Add a New SIP Provider
-
Open Settings → System Settings.
-
Locate the Third-Party SIP section.
-
Click Add Third-Party SIP Provider.
-
Select Custom or the custom SIP trunk configuration.
-
Enter the provider name.
Use:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Provider Name | Voyced |
| Provider Type | Custom / Third-Party SIP |
| Connection Method | SIP Registration |
UniFi Talk has predefined templates for several SIP providers.
Voyced is configured using the custom provider option.
Do not select another provider's template unless its settings have been checked for compatibility.
3. Configure the SIP Server
In the custom SIP trunk configuration, enter:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Provider Name | Voyced |
| SIP Server / Proxy | sip.voyced.eu |
| Registrar | sip.voyced.eu |
| SIP Port | 5060 |
| Transport | UDP |
| SIP Domain / Realm | sip.voyced.eu |
| Registration | Enabled |
The available field names depend on your UniFi Talk version.
Some versions show the registrar and proxy settings under Advanced Settings.
If the registrar and proxy share a single field, enter:
sip.voyced.eu
Do not enter a numerical IP address unless your setup cannot use the primary hostname.
The primary SIP hostname provides Voyced's geographic routing and fallback.
4. Enter Voyced Authentication Details
In the SIP authentication section, enter:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Username | Your-Voyced-DID |
| Authentication Username | Your-Voyced-DID |
| Password | YourServicePassword |
| Registration Username | Your-Voyced-DID |
| From User | Your-Voyced-DID |
| From Domain | sip.voyced.eu |
Replace the placeholders with your actual account details.
Use the complete Voyced telephone number as supplied.
The service password is the password assigned to your Voyced telephone service, not your customer portal password.
Where UniFi Talk provides a single Username field, use your Voyced DID for both registration and authentication.
5. Configure Registration Settings
UniFi Talk supports registration-based SIP trunks.
Use:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Register | Enabled |
| Registration Expiry | 120 seconds |
| SIP Transport | UDP |
| Registrar | sip.voyced.eu |
| SIP Port | 5060 |
UniFi Talk 5.4.5 introduced a dedicated Registration Expiry field. New custom trunks default to 120 seconds.
Keep this default for the initial connection.
If Voyced returns a different registration interval, follow the interval accepted by the server.
Older UniFi Talk versions may show the registration settings as custom fields.
Typical legacy fields include:
proxy=sip.voyced.eu
realm=sip.voyced.eu
username=Your-Voyced-DID
password=YourServicePassword
register=true
extension=Your-Voyced-DID
from-user=Your-Voyced-DID
from-domain=sip.voyced.eu
Use the modern built-in fields where available.
Do not add duplicate custom fields when UniFi Talk already provides the same settings.
Click Save or Apply Changes.
6. Configure Inbound Number Matching
UniFi Talk must recognise your Voyced telephone number when an incoming call arrives.
Open the Voyced provider configuration and locate the inbound number settings.
Depending on your version, these may be called:
-
DID Numbers
-
Incoming Numbers
-
Number Mapping
-
Route by Username
-
Inbound Routing
Add:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Provider | Voyced |
| DID / Incoming Number | Your-Voyced-DID |
| SIP Username | Your-Voyced-DID |
| From Domain | sip.voyced.eu |
Use your complete telephone number, including country code.
For versions supporting Route by Username, enable this method when the incoming SIP request identifies your Voyced account by username.
UniFi Talk 5.3 introduced additional inbound routing controls, and later versions require a From Domain setting for username-based routing.
The incoming SIP username and domain must match the values received in actual calls.
If UniFi Talk uses source IP matching instead, enter the verified signalling addresses used by Voyced.
Voyced does not normally require customers to whitelist their IP addresses. The inbound IP matching discussed here is a separate security feature on the UniFi Talk side.
Because Voyced uses geographic routing and multiple regional servers, do not assume the IP address currently returned by sip.voyced.eu represents every possible incoming signalling address.
7. Assign Your Voyced Number to a User
Once the Voyced provider is configured:
-
Open Assignments → Users.
-
Select the user who should receive calls.
-
Open the Settings tab.
-
Find the number assignment section.
-
Click Manage.
-
Select your Voyced telephone number.
-
Click Apply Changes.
Example:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| User | Reception |
| Extension | 100 |
| Telephone Number | Your-Voyced-DID |
| Provider | Voyced |
The selected user's assigned telephone should now receive incoming calls for the Voyced number.
8. Configure Inbound Call Groups
If several people should answer the same Voyced number, create a Talk Group.
-
Navigate to Assignments → Users.
-
Click Add Group.
-
Enter a group name.
-
Assign your Voyced telephone number.
-
Select the group members.
-
Choose how incoming calls should ring.
Example:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Group Name | Voyced Reception |
| Telephone Number | Your-Voyced-DID |
| Members | Reception / Sales |
| Ringing Method | Simultaneous |
UniFi Talk supports:
-
Simultaneous ringing
-
Sequential ringing
With simultaneous ringing, all selected members ring together.
With sequential ringing, UniFi Talk calls group members in order.
Save the group configuration.
9. Configure Outbound Calling
Return to the Voyced SIP provider settings.
Look for:
Handle All Outgoing Calls By Default
Enable this option if Voyced is your main external telephone provider.
If you use multiple providers, select the appropriate outbound routing configuration instead.
Example:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Outbound Provider | Voyced |
| Default Outbound Provider | Enabled |
| Caller ID | Your-Voyced-DID |
| Number Format | International, digits only |
UniFi Talk 5.4.5 introduced an outbound number-format setting for third-party SIP trunks.
Configure this setting so numbers sent to Voyced contain the country code without a leading +.
Example of the format Voyced expects:
442012345678
Not:
+442012345678
The telephone's user interface may display numbers in another format. The important requirement is the format UniFi Talk sends in the outbound SIP request.
Older UniFi Talk versions may automatically add a leading + or apply unwanted country code changes.
If your version lacks the outbound number-format setting, update UniFi Talk before completing the outbound setup.
10. Configure Outbound Caller ID
UniFi Talk allows users to select an outbound number from their assigned numbers.
For a registered Voyced trunk, use the account number associated with the SIP registration.
Example:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Outbound Caller ID | Your-Voyced-DID |
| SIP Username | Your-Voyced-DID |
| Provider | Voyced |
UniFi Talk 5.3 updated registered third-party trunks to use the account username as the outbound caller identity.
Where the system offers separate caller ID settings, use a telephone number authorised for outbound presentation on your Voyced account.
Do not enter an arbitrary caller ID.
For multiple telephone numbers or users, confirm the permitted caller ID settings before assigning different outbound numbers.
11. Configure Codecs and Audio
Voyced supports standard G.711 audio.
Recommended codec priority:
-
PCMA / G.711 A-law
-
PCMU / G.711 μ-law
Where codec settings are available in your UniFi Talk version or telephone configuration, ensure these codecs are enabled.
Do not force G.729, Opus or another codec unless the complete connection supports it.
For most installations, UniFi Talk manages RTP negotiation automatically.
If you experience one-way audio, check the network configuration before changing codec settings.
12. Configure Firewall and NAT
For a normal registration-based Voyced SIP trunk, UniFi Talk registers outbound to Voyced.
This registration normally keeps the required signalling path open through a stateful firewall.
Recommended settings:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| SIP Server | sip.voyced.eu |
| SIP Destination Port | UDP 5060 |
| SIP Registration | Enabled |
| SIP ALG | Disabled |
| Static Signalling Port | Disabled unless required |
Do not create an unrestricted inbound SIP port-forwarding rule for a normal registration-based connection.
UniFi Talk's Static Signalling Port option is intended primarily for non-registering, IP-authenticated trunks.
If your specific network requires static signalling:
-
Open Settings → System Settings.
-
Locate Static Signalling Port.
-
Enable it only when needed.
-
Use the documented port
6767. -
Restrict any required inbound firewall access to verified carrier signalling addresses.
Do not open port 6767 to the entire internet.
Voyced normally requires no IP whitelisting.
Testing Your Setup
Registration Test
-
Open UniFi Talk.
-
Navigate to your third-party SIP provider configuration.
-
Select Voyced.
-
Check the provider's registration status.
The expected result is:
Registered
If registration fails, review the SIP server, username and password.
Inbound Test
-
Call your Voyced number from an external mobile telephone.
-
Confirm the assigned UniFi Talk telephone rings.
-
Answer the call.
-
Check two-way audio.

End the call.
-
Review the call history.
If the number is assigned to a group, confirm the correct group members ring.
Outbound Test
-
Pick up your UniFi Talk telephone.
-
Dial an external telephone number.
-
Place the call through Voyced.
-
Confirm the destination rings.
-
Check two-way audio.
-
Confirm the correct caller ID appears.
Verify the destination number sent to Voyced uses full international digits-only format.
Example:
442012345678
Troubleshooting
SIP Registration Fails
Check:
-
SIP server is
sip.voyced.eu -
Username is
Your-Voyced-DID -
Password is
YourServicePassword -
Registration is enabled
-
Transport is UDP
-
Destination port is
5060 -
DNS resolution works
Also check that the registration interval is accepted by Voyced.
401 or 407 Error
These responses indicate SIP authentication is required.
An initial challenge is normal during registration.
If authentication repeatedly fails, check:
-
SIP username
-
Service password
-
Authentication realm
-
Whether UniFi Talk responds to the challenge correctly
403 Error
Check:
-
Voyced account status
-
SIP authentication
-
Outbound call permissions
-
Caller ID authorisation
-
Any account restrictions
Voyced does not normally require IP whitelisting.
404 Error
Check:
-
Destination telephone number
-
International number format
-
SIP Request-URI
-
Prefix handling
-
Inbound DID matching
-
Which system returned the response
A common issue is UniFi Talk sending a leading + when the provider expects digits only.
Use the outbound number-format setting introduced in UniFi Talk 5.4.5.
Incoming Calls Do Not Ring
Check:
-
SIP registration status
-
Assigned Voyced telephone number
-
User or group assignment
-
Inbound number matching
-
Route by Username settings
-
Incoming SIP domain
-
Source IP restrictions on the UniFi Talk side
If your Voyced connection uses geographic failover, check that UniFi Talk accepts the actual inbound signalling sources.
Do not replace sip.voyced.eu with a regional server merely because an incoming call fails.
Outbound Calls Fail
Check:
-
Default outbound provider
-
Number format
-
SIP authentication
-
Caller ID
-
Available calling credit
-
Simultaneous call limits
Inspect the outgoing SIP request if the displayed number looks correct but the call still fails.
One-Way Audio
Check:
-
SIP ALG
-
NAT settings
-
RTP traffic
-
Firewall rules
-
Audio codec negotiation
If the UniFi Console is behind another router, disable SIP ALG on that upstream device.
UniFi Talk's official network guidance recommends symmetric RTP where supported when diagnosing one-way audio.
Calls Drop After Approximately 30 Seconds
Check:
-
SIP ALG
-
NAT handling
-
SIP response routing
-
Session acknowledgement
-
Firewall timeouts
SIP ALG on an upstream router is a common cause.
No Third-Party SIP Provider Option
Confirm:
-
UniFi Talk is installed and updated.
-
Your UniFi Console supports UniFi Talk.
-
Your telephones are subscription-unlocked.
-
You are signed in with administrator permissions.
Third-party SIP connections are not supported on subscription-locked UniFi Talk telephones.
Registration Works but Calls Still Fail
Successful registration confirms the account has registered with Voyced.
It does not guarantee correct inbound or outbound routing.
Test these separately:
-
SIP registration
-
Inbound DID routing
-
Outbound number formatting
-
Caller ID presentation
-
Two-way audio
Final Tips
-
Always use your Voyced SIP account credentials.
-
Keep the SIP server set to
sip.voyced.eu. -
Use
Your-Voyced-DIDas the SIP username. -
Use
YourServicePasswordas the SIP password. -
Voyced normally requires no IP whitelisting.
-
Use unlocked UniFi Talk telephones.
-
Enable SIP registration for your Voyced account.
-
Keep the default registration expiry initially.
-
Use international telephone numbers without a leading
+when sending calls to Voyced. -
Prefer UniFi Talk 5.4.5 or newer for improved outbound number formatting.
-
Do not enable Static Signalling Port unnecessarily.
-
Do not configure SIP URI forwarding.
-
Never run scripts or make configuration changes on Voyced servers.
-
Test inbound and outbound calling separately.
-
Keep your UniFi Talk application and telephone firmware updated.
UniFi Talk supports third-party SIP registration and is suitable for connecting to Voyced using the normal username, password and SIP server method. Final interoperability should be confirmed through registration, inbound and outbound call testing.
