You may notice that your SIP device or softphone (User Agent) shows “registered”, even when your username or password are wrong. This can be confusing, but it’s not a security issue.
Let’s explain what’s really happening.
No, it’s not a breach of the IPPBX
Our Hosted IPPBX is secure. It does not allow unauthorised users to register or make calls.
When your SIP device tries to register:
-
If the username or password is incorrect, or
-
If the account is blocked
The registration is not accepted, even if your device says it is.
Why does it still say “registered”?
Some SIP User Agents (UAs) are designed to show a successful registration message even when the server has rejected it.
This is because our system replies in a standard way that keeps things simple for diagnostics. It lets the device think it’s registered, so the next step (making a call) can help reveal what’s actually wrong.
When you try to place a call:
-
The call is redirected to our media server
-
You will hear a clear message, such as:
-
“This account does not exist”
-
“Account is blocked”
-
“Incorrect login credentials”
-
This makes troubleshooting easier without exposing your system to any risk.
What to check if this happens:
-
Double-check your SIP username and password (especially for 'invisible' spaces at the beginning or at the end of it)
-
Confirm the account is active and not blocked in your Client area
-
Try placing a call to trigger the correct voice message
